Encountering an error on Roku Ultra when using an RF remote

Same problem. Just got a new Roku Ultra. But I don't want to use the remote - I have a Universal Remote MX-450 that runs everything. For example the amp is in the basement, and I use RF signals to change the volume, and IR for everything else. I set up the Roku on the 450, and had it learn a few keys that weren't pre-programmed. Everything is working fine.

But the Roku doesn't like that I'm using an IR remote, so it keeps giving the "For a better experience, try pairing your remote again" error, with "pair now" and "do it later" options.  We need a third option, "dismiss," which makes the pop-up go away forever. I don't want to use the included remote. I never will.  And I don't need a reminder.

I looked all over, but couldn't find a way to deactivate this in Options.  Is it in there somewhere? This thread is 2 years old, so I'd hope there was some progress made since then.

Based on your setup, it looks like you're using an RF remote with your Roku Ultra. Your MX-450 configuration sounds solid, but Roku is built to work specifically with its own Voice Remote. That’s probably why you’re seeing that pairing message—it doesn’t recognize other RF remotes. If you’re looking for more details, you can check out Roku’s support site or community forums here.

Try disabling Device Connect in the settings.

    Settings> system> advanced system settings> device connect> disable

The constant pairing prompt on Roku Ultra when using an IR universal remote is a common frustration. Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in option to permanently dismiss that pop-up. It happens because Roku expects its own paired remote for the best experience. A workaround some users try is re-pairing the Roku remote or using the Roku app for control, but the “dismiss forever” option isn’t available yet. Hopefully, Roku adds this option in the future!
