Continuous loop of updating when setting up Roku express

When I connect to WiFi and select English it is in a continuous loop of needing an update. I have reset it 3 times with no luck. It is brand new.

Try using a power adapter at the wall if you are currently powering your device via your TV's USB power port. (any 5volt, 1amp phone charger adapter will work).

If still a no-go, try connecting the Roku Express to a mobile hotspot (if available to you) and see if that gets you past the update.

This happened to me. AvsGunnar was right. I plugged my Roku box into my tv and it was not enough power. Plugged it into the outlet and it updated and turned on right away.

      thanks AvsGunnar

I tried both these things (hotspot and plug) also resetting the router and Roku, and my projector. Still getting the same loop. I feel I have exhausted my options and will have to return it at this point. Been trying to set it up for over an hour and cursing rokus name in frustration. It sucks they don't have a chat or something

        Hi annoyedaf,

Thanks for the first post to the Roku Community!

We understand you are having trouble with the continuous updating loop when setting up your Roku Express.

We want to investigate this issue further but need more details. Can you please provide us with the following information:

        • Roku TV model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version. (These can all be found in Settings > System > About).
        • Tracker ID (to obtain this, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times when the issue occurs).
        • Photo of the error message for reference.

Once we have this information, we'll be able to pass it along to the appropriate Roku team for further investigation.

        All the best,
        Chel
