The Advanced Wireless Receiver (AWR) is a nodule on the USB power cord for the device. It contains the Roku's WiFi receiver, moved from the interior of the Streaming Stick where it was located on earlier model sticks.
Be sure you're using the specialized USB cord with this nodule, as it is essential for the Roku to connect to the internet through your local network and for receiving commands from the remote. Make sure both ends are making secure connections to the Roku and TV.
If you have a Streaming Stick model (3800/3810/3811) these models use an AWR001 cable that connects to the Roku via a USB-mini connection. These models have been discontinued and a replacement AWR for them is no longer available. If yours is defective, your only recourse is to purchase a current model Streaming Stick or a non-Stick model that does not use an AWR.
Current Streaming Stick models use an AWR002 cable that connects to the Roku via a USB-micro connector. Replacement cables are available from Roku for about $20:
