Roku Streambar no sound

I connected the Roku streambar (model: 9104R-Steambar SE) to HDMI 1 of my TV (model: Panasonic Viera TC-PS0S30). I can watch the video on the TV, but the sound does not come from the TV speaker. It comes from the streambar speaker instead. Even for the video coming from other devices connected to other HDMI ports, the sound is heard only from the streambar. I have to turn off the streambar power to get the TV speaker to sound.

My TV is an old model. It has 3 HDMI ports, but only HDMI 1 is HDMI ARC, which is required by the streambar. So I used HDMI 1 for the streambar and other HDMI ports for other devices such as DVD player and computer.

I tried to change a lot of audio settings of the streambar as well as the TV, but was unable to solve this. Could you help me with this issue? I think the TV speaker is better because it has larger volume and the volume can be adjusted.

Thank you!

To disable the Viera Link on the TV menu of your Panasonic TV, follow these steps:

    CEC steps:

    1. Press MENU on your Panasonic remote
    2. Use the directional buttons to highlight Setup
    3. Press OK
    4. Select HDMI control
    5. Select CEC function
    6. Select OFF

    ARC steps:

    1. Perform Panasonic CEC steps 1 through 3.
    2. Select VIERA Link settings
    3. Press OK
    4. Highlight OFF
    5. Press OK

Yes. I see "adjust volume" buttons on the right side of the remote. That solves the problem. Thank you!

It looks like your TV is automatically routing all audio through the Streambar via HDMI ARC. Try disabling HDMI-CEC (also called VIERA Link on Panasonic TVs) in your TV settings—this may prevent it from defaulting to audio going to the Streambar. You can also check if your TV has an option to prioritize internal speakers over ARC.

That's the way it's supposed to work.  If you don't won't sound to come from the Streambar for the TV and other connected devices, don't connect the Streambar to the ARC port.  You'll get sound from the Streambar for Roku apps and sound from the TV speakers for everything else.

Thank you. I think the volume of the streambar is two low. Is there a way to adjust the volume to make it louder?

  • I've never had a streambar but I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to adjust the volume.  What happens when you try?

Thank you for your reply. The sound comes from the streambar speaker instead of that of the TV. The streambar is controlled by the steambar remote, on which there is no volume control.
