After back and forth with tech support for weeks. Sending in videos of the issue and being patient they actually after everything said…. It’s a YouTube issue and tried to dodge accountability. Worst support.
its a Roku issue. Everyone knows it’s all over the web. TCL Roku TV’s can not process the QR code ads from you tube. These TVs also have issues with constantly just showing black screen on prime as well while audio comes through just like with the ads on YouTube. At least with prime a full restart usually fixes it.
with YouTube? Nothing you can do. No amount of work around will help these TVs and current Roku software can not process the QR code ads.
first and last Roku tv and won’t recommend to anyone.

Same here. I have two TCL Roku TVs that have been doing this for two years. I just purchased a second Fire TV stick and stopped using Roku on both TVs because of it.
insane that I buy a Roku TV but then have to purchase a competitor solution to plug into it because they can’t fix this in 2+ years.
To Roku: it’s any and all content on YouTube when QR code ad comes up. Video goes black after ad, no way to fix it but to select another video in the app, then it starts working again. I don’t even have to restart the app so it’s definitely a resuming issue after ad.
If you don’t have a TCL Roku TV in your QA lab that can reproduce this I’d be shocked.

Hey there! LAzerus
I understand you're having the same issue with YouTube when QR ads appear and the video goes black. We want to share this with our team. Can you share a bit of info?- Roku device info: Software version, Device ID, and Serial Number (found in Settings > System > About).
- Tracker ID Software version and build press Home 5 times, then Back 5 times when the issue occurs.
- App version
Let us know when you can!

I provided all the requested data a month ago, and Roku still doesn't have an answer. I even sent a video of the TV going blank. Don't purchase Roku, after purchase, support is useless.

Yep, sounds like it's time to set up some external streaming platform and stop using the Roku apps all together. Which is annoying and extra cost & work. But actually kinda worth it, because then I can set my TV to offline mode and stop getting these horrible invasive ads all the time on my home screen.
