YouTube app video quality

I noticed this has been an issue before (years now) and its starting to annoy me. My TV is a 1080p Roku TV that displays 1080p through the inputs however seems to struggle with its own software/firmware. I an watching YouTube yet no matter what video I play, even if it says "4k" next to the video, will ONLY playback in 720p at max I can get 720p60. But the quality is already bad enough at 1080p on a 32" tv, and 720p just looks like someone smeared pixels on the screen, its close to unwatchable for no particular reason. Any words help, thanks.

  • So sorry, I've been busy, but for me its a little different, no video will play above 720p, and restarting does absolutely nothing, it is just with YouTube.

Thanks for the update SargeGamez  and OGKingOnyx

Since the issue happens only on the YouTube app, it would be best to contact the YouTube support team to take a closer look at the issue.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you need more info.

    Welcome SargeGamez

It looks like you are having an issue with the quality of the videos when watching content on YouTube.

To confirm, is that the only affected app, or have you tried to check the other app to see if it is doing the same thing?

In the meantime, try restarting the system of the TV by pressing Home > Select Settings > Select System > Power (if that option is not there, skip to the next step) > System restart

Let us know how it goes!

    Hi there! SargeGamez

In addition to what the other moderator mentioned, could you let us know if this issue happens with all YouTube videos? Since video quality can vary depending on the uploader and internet strength plays a big role. It would also help to know if you're able to change the resolution using the gear icon while watching.

Let us know what you find!

Since the user that started the report won't reply I will. YouTube is the only affected app. Only random YouTube videos are affected. A 2K video uploaded 3 days ago plays 1080P and a 4K video uploaded yesterday is unaffected. Restarting the system does literally nothing. This problem is affecting multiple customers across a wide region.
