X-Files series no longer Free to watch

I've been watching X-Files series on FreeVee and its no longer there!  What happened?  I shouldn't have to pay for it on Disney or Hulu!!!!  Can anyone help???

  • FreeVee (actually Amazon, it's owner) owns little or none of the programming on FreeVee, especially the older stuff, but they license it from the shows' various owners.  Licenses come and go.  Some expire and new ones are acquired.

X-Files was a Fox property.  Disney acquired 20th Century Fox Entertainment in 2019.   So it may not be too much of a surprise for Disney not to renew the X-Files lease on FreeVee where it can be viewed for free and only maintain it on Disney-controlled Disney+ and Hulu, and on other services where it rented generating revenue of which Disney gets a cut.

There should have been a warning of some sort... e.g. this series will no longer be available after *date*... I prefer not to pay to watch re-runs - and the other options require pay-by-episode or pay-by-season. I was just catching up on x-files but only made it though half of season 4. I am seriously 😞 disappointed!

Welcome to the Roku Community, FREE1!

Thanks for posting here. We'd be happy to help you with anything

Just to clarify, do you want to install the Comet TV app on your Home screen? If so, here are the steps to help you:

      1. Press Home on your Roku remote
      2. Scroll and select Store
      3. Select Channels, then browse by genre, recommended, featured, top free, and other categories
      4. When you want to learn more about an app, press OK on your remote
      5. If the app is free, select Add channel; if the app requires a subscription, select OK to start a free trial or purchase a subscription

The app will be added to the bottom of the list of apps on the home screen. If you prefer, the app can be moved higher up the list.

You may also install this app via the website or from the Roku mobile app. For more information about this, you may visit this support article: How to add apps to your Roku streaming device

I hope you find this information helpful.

      Best regards,
      Carly
