Can we stop horror ads on family shows?

Looooong time Roku user, just started watching some shows on Roku Channel... Why is seemingly every ad, for a shoe I want to watch with my kid, Great American Baking Show, just scary horror movie ads??? Middle of the day, family friendly show, I've never once even watched a horror movie on any Roku device. Probably won't watch their channel again now. Real miss.

  • How to limit ads on Roku:
Press Home on your Roku remote
    Select Settings
    Select Privacy
    Select Advertising
    Select Sensitive ad content
Select one or more sensitive ad categories
    Press OK

    Hey there! josef264

Thanks for bringing this up! You can manage your ad preferences by following the steps shared by JWS9518. Also, could you let us know which specific ads you’re seeing?

    Please keep us posted!

We have adjusted these settings and still get ads/commercials for Midsummer Murders and now Atilla the Hun!  How can we stop these?

I agree with Josef264.  Just stop ALL the horror/scary/creepy movie ads. None of them need to be advertised. Anyone who’s interested will find those movies. Network tv isn’t allowed to show them during the day and so should Roku, especially if you want to keep viewers. We blocked all these channels so that should be a sign we’re not interested.

And adding the settings to Personalize Ads has the disclaimer “you will no longer be opted-out of the use of sensitive personal information.” That’s not great either. It feels like we’re back on creepy Facebook.

In the end we’ll just stop watching.

The filmrise horror ads are absolutely disgusting horror. REMOVE THEM ALL. NO HORROR ADS IN ROKU, EVER!!!

  • Thank you to everyone here posting about these ads! Why bother having the option of checking all of those boxes and still having to deal with those terrifying ads during family programming? I really don't think Roku cares and I am seriously considering switching streaming devices at this point.
