Does anyone else have a problem with the volume on commercials being very loud while the volume on shows/movies is so low that you have to turn the volume way up. This causes the already loud commercials to blast so loud that it could wake the dead. I am very uncomfortable with this as I do not want to wake my neighbors. I have to hold the remote and mute all the commercials as soon as they come on. Very annoying... I do not watch Roku as much as I would like due to this issue and I never listen to commercials. No great loss there... 🙂

  Totally agree. I too, have almost stopped watching it. I also run into a problem when using headphones. Some shows/movies I can hear and others won't connect. Headphones will say connected and then there's a little crack sound and no audio at all plays. I restarted headphones, bluetooth, and roku device and nothing. I immediately go to Netflix or Prime and never an issue. I like Roku channel but am watching less and less of it and getting more frustrated.

    I'd like to update my previous post by saying somehow, the crazy loud commercials have been toned down, if Roku has heard our voices and corrected, (and I'm assuming this is the case, as I've changed nothing). Kudos and thank you!

  We have the same problem. It started very recently. It is extremely annoying. Even my wife, who hates spending money on electronics, has suggested getting a new TV--and we have had this one less than a year. It is a 55" TCL. OS is 9.3

    On my 50" TCL Roku TV it's just the Roku channel itself. Doesn't happen on any other channels.

  Just like in the movie "Jaws" this was no accident! Roku is intentionally reducing the volume of all shows on the Roku channel by 30% to 40%. Therefore they cannot be accused of increasing the volume of commercials (they are at normal volume). If you turn the volume up to hear the shows the volume of the commercials will simply be 30% to 40% higher. Roku is treating its users like uneducated pawns and I would suggest that if most of us users quit using their product they would eventually stop this annoying practice.

    So is there a solution to this issue? I can't watch TV like this and may buy a non TCL TV altogether and avoid roku for good.

YES! Haha, I had to. It's so bad I don't watch it at all anymore. It's at least 3 times louder than the show I try to watch. I hope they fix it soon. On the other hand PLUTO TV is pretty good.

It should be reported to the FCC. Channel volume should not be increased from regular shows to the commercials

  Unfortunately, the FCC does not regulate streaming content. They only have power over broadcast, cable, and satellite transmission.

    Actually, the CALM Act (regulated by the FCC) might already apply to Roku. In addition to broadcast, cable, and satellite providers, it includes "other multichannel video program distributors (MVPDs)". Roku devices allow you to access multiple channels. So, maybe.
    Even if it doesn't apply, the FCC could still be contacted about this and told that you want streaming channels held to the same volume-leveling standards as other broadcasters. The CALM Act was created because people complained, so yeah, complain.

  I'm trying to watch a movie on Pluto's on demand, "We were Soldiers " on my TCL ROKU TV. My volume is set on 65 and still can hardly hear it. You can imagine what the commercials sound like, it will blow you out of the room!

Yes I have the same problem with my Roku TV. I thought the some government made a law or a regulation against this issue??? And obviously we are being short-changed on Roku TV volume, is it because Roku people want us to buy Roku speakers??? My family has a Hisense brand and is waaay better because even background noise on action movies are not overbearing and commercials are the same volume level as movies and shows.

Soon to be illegal. It's already illegal when media is coming from a broadcast antenna or cable service. It's called the CALM Act of 2010. This new 2023 bill makes it illegal when media's coming from internet streaming service. Reach out to your federal representatives. On your smart tv go to settings, "sound", probably "advanced settings", turn on "auto volume". it keeps all volumes at the same decibal level.

  I don't have a smart TV but I did set volume settings where they're supposed to all be the same, unfortunately, it doesn't work in Roku!
