Using Roku channel on laptop

Hi,

I just created a new Roku account.

When I login, and attempt to stream a free tv show, it prompts me to download/add the roku channel.

When i try to add/download the app, it says "oops, there's a problem".

I thought I could stream free content on the Roku channel after logging into my Roku account.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ivor

How are you trying to watch TRC? On a laptop? A TV with apps? Some other player?

Your Roku user account by itself does not provide access to TRC. If you're using a device with a browser (computer, tablet, phone, smart TV or other streaming device) yon can simply go to their website (https://therokuchannel.roku.com/) to watch it. If you are using a device without a browser (most TVs), you probably need a streaming device that has an app for TRC. Samsung TVs have an app, but most TVs don't. Roku does have an app for Android based players (such as the Nvidia Shield) so it can be added there as well. But the simplest way to watch TRC is with a Roku device (TV or player).

      Hello,

Thanks a lot for your prompt response.

I created a Roku Account on my Windows (Microsoft Surface Pro) laptop.

I'm connected to my home Wifi, and I use a Chrome Browser.

I get to this screen after searching and finding this free TV show (see below), but I'm unable to launch/stream. There's a link to "Add Roku Channel".

  • Hi,

Thanks for tip about accessing the Roku channel website directly.

    I'm in Montreal, Canada.

When I try to access the Roku Channel, I get a message as follows:

      We understand, Ivormartin83

It seems that the website provided is not working. Could you try to use this link instead: therokuchannel.roku.com/en-ca/whats-on/the-roku-channel on any available browser.

Let us know if that clears things up!

        Hi,

I tried your Roku channel link,  but when I try to stream a free TV show, it prompts me to add the Roku channel app.

When I click on "Add Roku channel", it tells me it doesn't detect any Roku device associated with my account, and prompts me to buy a Roku device.

I hope this helps clarify my situation.

        Thanks, and regards,

        Ivor

Ivormartin83 any chance you're using a VPN on the computer you're trying to use, or on your network? TRC is available in Canada, but a VPN could be messing with your identified location.
