Usb device says too slow and doesn’t work but it’s 64GB
I’ve brought a 64GB usb to plug into tv (it says 16GB or bigger) to use the pause tv but it says it’s too slow…. What am I doing wrong?

We appreciate you for reaching out for assistance regarding the Live TV pause on your Roku TV, and we're here to help. Live TV Pause requires a USB 2.0 compatible flash drive with at least 16GB of storage. 16GB is the minimum size required to hold 90 minutes of paused TV. USB drives larger than 16GB will not increase the amount of pause time. The USB drive is used only to pause live digital broadcast television and cannot be used to store recorded programs for future use, or for transferring to another device.
How to set up Live TV Pause
Follow the steps below to connect a flash drive and enable Live TV pause on your Roku TV system.
Connect a USB flash drive to your TV
Plug the USB drive into a USB port on the back or side of your Roku TV system.
- If your TV has a single USB port, then you will need to alternate USB drives to use Live TV Pause and play personal media (photos, music, and video).
- If your TV has multiple USB ports, only one USB port can be used for Live TV Pause. When formatting, only the USB drive for Live TV Pause should be connected to any of USB ports. After formatting completes, you can insert a different USB drive into another USB port for playing personal media.
After the USB drive is inserted, you will be prompted to reformat it. A message may prompt you to launch a media player, select Don’t launch.
How to enable Live TV Pause
Before you can enable Live TV Pause you need to first set up the Live TV input on your TV. After Live TV is set up, you will be prompted to set up Live TV pause.
If you have already added the Live TV input to your TV, use the following instructions to enable Live TV Pause.
- Press Home on your Roku remote
- Highlight the Live TV input and press Star to open the Options menu
- Select Set up Live TV Pause
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup

I have the same issue. I bought a SMART 55gj4725K Roku TV. I also bought a 32GB USB 2.0 memory stick. The TV formats it just fine but at the end of the process it says "USB Drive too slow" and i can't use it. Both the stick and the TV are brand new.
Do I buy another stick possibly wasting money when the problem might be the same?
Please can Roku answer the user's question instead of just giving us the 'How to use Live TV Pause' spec sheet.
Also, can i use a USB 3.0 stick? Will that help (or even work since the ports are USB 2.0)?

We understand you're having trouble connecting your USB device to your TV. We'd be more than willing to investigate this further.
Have you tried connecting your USB to another USB port on your TV? If not, we recommend doing so to see if that improves the speed. In addition, yes, a USB 3.0 drive will usually work in USB 2.0 mode on a Roku device/TV. However, some USB 3.0 drives may not work if plugged directly into the TV's USB port. To get around this, you can try using a USB 2.0 extension cable or USB 2.0 hub.

Did you order it on amazon or do you have any product information?
Does it say anything on it? Or speeds/specs on the packaging?
It might be a USB 2.0 device, because while old, they're still sold, and they're very slow for the Roku's needs.
