the "outage" business on the roku channel, for the issue described in this thread, is completely bogus and unrelated to the issue

Hi Carly,
Further to my earlier messages, its been working for around 2 weeks, thanks.
Its gone again though, stopped yesterday. Any option i choose to watch, it shows the same on screen message as before and fails to play.

Is it necessary to use a VPN? Maybe someone at ROKU meddled with hardware or software and now the infrastructure is looking for more specific information about the user and the vpn is triggering it to shut you down
try without being hooked up via a VPN and see what happens- Bertrand002 years agoBinge Watcher
hi, for me in Britain if I don't use an American based vpn then I cant get past the roku loading welcome page. Ive just tried again to check.

Hi Carly,
Has anything come of this? It worked for a few weeks only.

Please let us know if you are still having this issue when connecting your device to a different network, such as a mobile hotspot.

personally, historically, I was able to access Roku via firestick using VPN.
Then, some weeks ago, I was unable to access Roku via the firestick.
I theorized that VPN may be the issue because many web sites will not function if you access them via a VPN, my guess is they detect you are using a VPN and this thwarts their ability to collect information.
To test my theory, I disabled the VPN on my firestick and then I was able to access Roku content just as I always have been able to.
So, my guess is that Roku has made some changes that thwart anyone using a VPN

This issue has been happening for a year and a half at least. I don't use a VPN and I can't watch any of the shows I've tried on my firestick lite.
