  • This is very annoying, it's either complete incompetence or being done deliberately for some nefarious reason. English speakers only want to hear English!

If you don't speak English and you live in the US then you need to either learn English or move someplace that speaks your native language!

America shouldn't be catering to Spanish speaking people anymore than Mexico or other places should cater to English speakers living in their counties.

I am tired of watching TV with Spanish speaking commercials.  I pay for TV that I can watch and understand, which is English not Spanish.  I thought that is what the Spanish channels are for.  I am considering ditching Roku.  We should have a choice and a voice!  No spanish!

Advertisers call the shots and pay for your ad-supported programs. If they want to reach viewers who speak Spanish, French, or Hindi, that's what you'll see. Just because the program is in English, many multi-lingual people may be watching.

America has never had a statutory national language. The founders made a deliberate choice to avoid that so as to welcome all comers. Yes, English has been the predominant language; but plenty of native born and naturalized Americans speak many other languages, often in addition to English.

How about the desires of the majority of folks who DON'T want to hear it?

  • I agree. We are an ENGLISH speaking country with ENGLISH as our official language. If you speak SPANISH then these commercials should be on your SPANISH language channels.

It won't change until people start to BOYCOTT any and all products that Roku insists on promoting in Spanish via English speaking channels.

I live in Louisiana and have not heard ONE English language commercial on Roku.

This is yet another example of the constant need to fight wokeness in our society.

  • I posted the other day about Spanish speaking commercials on english speaking channels. Now every commercial is speaking spanish. Omg that's so aggravating.

It just burns my **bleep** that some of these channels I PAY FOR!! So I'm also tired of hearing about how the advertisers are trying to target a specific demographic. I'm not in that target.

Then you win! You got some TV without paying for it!

The advertiser (the customer) took a loss on you, in this specific instance, but that's the risk they take in the advertising business - not all ads are successful. If they get a 2% response rate out of a direct mail campaign, then they're reasonably happy.

They're trying to target you better all the time of course. Maybe someday your remote will take a DNA sample to help them out! 😀
