Roku Ultra Issues with BBC iPlayer

Just purchased a Roku ultra from Amazon, as I was impressed with the 4k stick Roku. But sadly it’s failing to impress. BBC iPlayer will not even load, five and U will do adverts and then cease to do anything and says the  video is not available. Never had this with the 4k stick and expected a lot more from the ultra being over twice the price of the stick. Makes it a very expensive remote  control and it’s not fit for purpose.

  • I too am based in the UK and have a Roku Ultra as well as a Roku Ultra LT. Sadly, no BBC iPlayer. According to this BBC  link Roku has to send its devices to be certified by the BBC. I suppose that Roku is not going to do that because they are not selling Ultras in the UK.

I love  Rokus for their simple UI and the Ultra is IMHO, their best product, and I have various  streaming sticks and Streambars. One can only hope that Roku decides to market their Ultras in the UK as I think they are a good alternative to Apple TV which I also have.

I assume you're in the UK.  Things there are strange (judging by what I've seen here).  While you can import an Ultra, it's not available directly from Roku:

I don't know if that's the problem, but like I said, things there are strange especially when it comes to BBC iPlayer and the other UK channels.  None of the Ultra models appear on BBC's list of supported devices:

Yes. Correct I’m in the UK, it’s not going to work for me unfortunately so I am returning it and will return to the Roku 4K stick which does work with no issues.

I assume it's the device being non UK that iPlayer will not work in any location I presume.

Perhaps if it's location being the issue could a VPN fix the issue ?
