Roku keeps going back to home screen

This happens to me too, with multiple apps, at least I’ve noticed it with Max and Netflix so far. I’ve checked for updates for the apps as well as the tv. I have also deleted and reinstalled the apps. What more can I try ?

    Hi, Mstromberg62.

We completely understand your input. Sometimes, even with fiber optics, fluctuations in speed or signal strength can cause delays.

No worries. Our team is currently in the process of determining the root cause and finding the best resolution possible.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for any trouble and inconvenience this may have caused. In the meantime, your patience and understanding are highly appreciated.

    Best regards,
    Carly

    Hi Kstreeter06,

    Welcome to the Roku Community!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and we appreciate your efforts at resolving it. We'd like to take a closer look at this.

Have you tried rebooting your wireless network to see if you're still experiencing the same issue? We also suggest connecting to an alternative network, such as a mobile hotspot, to see if the issue persists.

We'll be looking forwards to your update.

    Thanks,

    Rey

Same issue as folks back in July (and probably more recently as well).  I've tried all the same things as others as well as the things suggested by Roku mods, but to no avail.  Happens on Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc. and it happens on BOTH of my streambars.  Here is the information provided by the Issue Report Tracker (for all the good it will do...)

      Model:  9102R - Roku Streambar

      Serial number:  YL006H542785 (2A1126542785)

      Software version:  12.0.0 - build 4185-95

      GC version:  10.2.518

      Timestamp:  2023-10-31T22:04:38Z

      Issue ID 85-437-644

Roku, if you haven't solved this issue yet (which obviously you haven't), you should AT LEAST put out a statement talking about what you have done, and what you plan to do about it.  The alternative is losing your customer base.

Here we are in Dec and my (3 year old) TCL tv is doing the same as others -- going right back to the homescreen. ALL my " channels" -- peacock, paramount+, N/F, disney+, you tube. Have made sure all updates are current, started and restarted... plugged and unplugged the tv. Frustrating is putting it mildly. --- what fixes do you have ???

        Hi Kimssosilly,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Roku Community!

Does the issue only occur on a specific channel or across other channels installed on your Roku device?

If you haven't tried it yet, you can remove the affected channel and then re-install it. To ensure the process is successful, restart your device before adding the channel back in. We recommend doing this from the Settings menu by navigating to Settings > System > Power > System restart. (If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step.)

For detailed instructions, refer to our Support link: How do I resolve channel playback issues?

Please let us know how it goes.

        All the best,

        Chel

  • Seems to be happening to several people.

It's happening on EVERY channel. Yes, we have deleted, restarted, reinstalled. Didn't help at all. It is NOT the internet considering the only device that is having any issue, is the ROKU.

I had to watch the football game on my phone today because my Roku wouldn't allow me to!!

You, Roku, need to fix YOUR software and stop giving all of us the same, lame, **bleep** suggestions. Just admit it and FIX IT!

    THANKS.B

I have left my Roku streaming stick+ unplugged and disconnected from any t.v. for the last 2 weeks. Plugged it into a different TV, and the same problem persist.  My other device has not had any issues, yet. However, I would like to watch shows somewhere other than my bedroom. So why is this device having all the issues?? Why are so many people having the same issues still? I hate the thought I had wasted $$. My old purple boxes, never gave me this many problems.

Can we please have some ACTUAL answers and solutions??

        DianeAult,

        Thanks for the post,

We appreciate you reaching out to us. We're pleased to assist.

        Factory reset your device

A factory reset clears the majority of data from your Roku device and restores it to a factory default configuration. Specifically, the process will:

        • Erase your personal preferences.
        • Unlink your device from your Roku account.
        • Reset all settings and return your device to a state ready for initial setup.

If you can control your Roku device, you can easily perform a factory reset from the Settings menu. If you cannot control your device or it is completely unresponsive, you can perform a factory reset using the physical Reset button on the device.

        From the Settings menu

Perform the following steps with your Roku remote or the Roku mobile app:

        1. Press Home home button on Roku remote on your Roku remote
        2. Scroll and select Settings
        3. Select System
        4. Select Advanced System settings
        5. Select Factory reset
        6. If you have a Roku TV, select Factory reset everything. Otherwise, move to the next step.
        7. Follow the on-screen instructions

Please keep us posted on what you find out, and we will be happy to continue assisting you further. We look forward to hearing back from you.

        Thanks,

        Arjiemar

This started happening a few days ago to one of our Roku Express. I wrongfully replaced it with a new one (Express 4k). Same issue persists. Factory resetting, replacing all cables, plugging into wall NOTHING HELPS!!! Not only does EVERY channel go back to the Home Screen after a few minutes, Netflix doesn’t stream consistently without stopping a few seconds into the show/movie. Please release a 12.5.1 version with the fix!!!

        Hi Community users,

We are grateful that you informed us of this, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

We advise using a different network, such as a mobile hotspot, on your device to see if that resolves the issue. Please return here and provide the details below if the problem continues.

        • Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About)
        • Tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times, and provide us with this ID).
        • Channels affected on this issue

        Please keep us posted!

        Thanks,

        Rey
