Roku doesn't not detect internet

Hi, We have a Roku for streaming on my dad's tv and it is not detecting my internet, which is on. I have not moved the router and no changes to anything. I have tried everything to no avail. It doesn't detect ANY internets, as in the homes around us. Any ideas?

Generally, if the Roku device can not detect any networks to connect to, usually indicates a failed/bad device. (hardware issue).  Of course, this assumes the neighboring networks are not sharing a common ISP or gateway provider and that the device was previously working.  If this is a new device, may be a network setting.  Model number of the Roku device would help.

If the Roku device is a Streaming Stick model 3810/3820, then issue could be a bad USB power cable which contains an internal wifi module (LRWR/AWR).

You could try a few things to troubleshoot.

    1. Try connecting to mobile hotspot if available.
    2. Try performing a Network Connection Reset on the Roku device. (Settings/System/Advanced System Settings/Network Connection Reset/Reset Connection).
    3. Try performing a Factory Reset. (Press and hold in reset button for 30+ seconds).  Just make sure you have a working physical Roku remote before peforming a Factory Reset.

Feel free to post back model number of Roku device (found under Settings/System/About) with update if still having issues.

  • Try unplugging power from your router and Roku for 60 seconds and then plug power back into router ..wait a couple of minutes and then plug back in the Roku and see if it detects the network.  What model is your Roku Does your Roku have a network connection for a cable on it, like an Ultra or is one that does not?   If possible, you can try hardwiring temporarily and see if you can get it to connect.   Depending on the model of your Roku, if it is an old one, it might struggle connecting to a router that uses a mixed mode network (2.4/5 ghz)   You could also try setting up a guest network on the router if it has the feature with 2.4 ghz only and see if that work.

Also, try checking for a firmware update on your router.
