Fast forward function recently changed

A few days ago, fast forward function changed - much faster now. Fast forward button pushes used to say - 1 =4x, 2=8x, 3=16x and 4 pushes was 32x. Now button pushes give you 1=2x, 2=3x and 3=4x and speed is much quicker now.  Very hard to control. Was this a designed change?  Is this selectable?

    Hi, Community users!

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand your concern with the fast-forward feature on the Hulu app that affects your streaming experience.

For this matter to be addressed, we would recommend contacting Hulu support directly and letting them know about your experience with the recent changes to the fast-forwarding feature. It is important to note that channel providers developed their app and maintain it on the Roku platform.

For more information, you can contact them at the Hulu Support Center.

Thank you for your continued participation in the Roku Community, and feel free to reach out to us if you have further concerns or inquries.

That sounds like an app-specific thing.  The default behavior has always only allowed three speeds when fast forwarding or rewinding and it doesn't give you any 2x, 4x, etc. indicators.  Some apps override the default behavior with what they think is best.

Almost glad to hear I'm not alone. Seems like this happened once before and I somehow fixed it. But nothing works this time. Unplugged from the wall, went to settings and reset system (several times), tried using the app on my phone. Nothing helps. So hope it is really solved soon. I did learn  to go forward or back with the right or left arrows though.

  • I have the exact same issue, same timeline. Fast forward’s only speed is super fast! No idea how to solve this. Any help from Roku?

Mike1397, contact the developer of the app.  Check out how FF works in "The Roku Channel".  That's the default.  Any deviation is something the developer has forced upon its users.  Roku can't help.

I tried it on the Roku channel and same thing. Then tried with same results on other services. Then I tried MLBTV and strangely the regular 2,4,8 was there. But not fixed anywhere else.

Im having the same issue using Roku to watch Hulu content. FF and Rewind is super fast with just one push. One second goes 2-3 minutes into recorded content. Very annoying.

Roku, any help would be appreciated.

This issue was just reported to Hulu support Chat by Me. They initially tried to push this back on Roku, instructing me to do a bunch of things by resetting my Roku, remote and router, etc., which I did. I did this after I informed them that all the other streaming Apps had no playback issues, that it was only Hulu. Later, I referenced the previously obtained Hulu case number provided on this chat as reference. It was only after I provided that number, did the tech later acknowledge that the problem existed, but then he claimed it has just started today. That was not true, and I pointed him to our chat here showing this has been an issue for at least two weeks. This resulted in his decision to issue a one month billing credit for my Hulu service. He said the issue would be escalated to other tech support within the company. I suspect some recent software update is responsible for this. They pushed it out without testing it properly. I lost the Hulu case number, but it can be found somewhere within the body of these chats.

        Hi, Shapnup

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the Roku Community.

We appreciate your engagement in this thread and thank you for sharing with us the case number with Hulu support, which is working on this current issue.

We would advise you to continue working with them regarding this matter since the channel provider can develop an update with their app to resolve this specific issue.

Hope this will be sorted as soon as possible, and let us know if you have further concerns or inquiries.

        Thanks,
        Kash

  • But wait! There's more! The on-screen display while fast forwarding used to clearly show where commercial breaks were. that has changed. somewhat. some breaks show, other show partially or not at all. Need to watch the thumbnail closely to see when commercial ends and then skip back to the start of program segment. This started happening at the very same time as the change in fast forward speed. ROKU: please bring back the way it was before.

  • The left and right directional buttons can be used for shorter scrubbing intervals.  10 seconds on each press or press and hold for incremental acceleration.
