No sound after ads on Hulu

Just recently every time ads come on hulu, my sound goes out after. I have to exit the show and hit resume show for it to come back on. I have a Hisense roku and a sony roku. Seems to do it on both.

  • Hey quick tip that I do , just fast forward a few seconds and the sound comes back, no need to exit and come back

Thank you!!! Fast forwarding for one second makes the volume come back! This was driving me completely nuts. I had been going back to the menu and restarting the episode, which often started all over from the beginning and I would have to fast-forward to where I was. I’m guessing it’s the fast-forwarding that was making it work again and not going back to the main menu. You’re awesome!

  • I had the same issue with Hulu on my Roku tv. I did all the suggestions on here and nothing worked until I accidentally found the solution . So, what happened was I couldn’t find the Roku tv remote so I decided to use my iPhone as the remote by going on the Roku app and selecting the device . The next step is to verify your email on the device because once you select the device a email is automatically sent to your email . And once I did that I used my phone as a remote and selected Hulu and from their I realized the sound issue after ads was resolved . So maybe this will help others . Just try logging into Roku app selecting the device you’re having issues and go through the steps of verifying email . Hope this helps!

    Hi Bdex,

    Welcome to the Roku Community!

Thanks for posting regarding a playback issue on the Hulu channel. In some cases, removing the channel and then reinstalling it may help. To ensure the process is successful, follow the steps below, making sure you restart your Roku device before adding the channel again.

    • Remove the channel. Highlight the channel tile on your home screen and press the Star button on your Roku remote to open the Options menu. Select Remove channel and confirm.
    • Restart your Roku device: Home > Settings > System > Power. "If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step." System restart.
    • Reinstall the channel. Visit the Roku Channel Store and add the channel again.

Please keep us posted on how it goes!

    All the best,

    Chel

I’m having the same problem. I tried removing the Hulu channel, restarting the tv and reloading the channel but still having the issue of loosing sound after commercials. Getting really annoying. If it keeps up I’ll have to cancel my Hulu subscription.

        • Tracker ID when this issue occurs. (When you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times, and provide us with this ID).

Removed hulu. Reset Roku, including clearing cache, reinstalled hulu...same issue. No other platforms do this, Netflix, discovery + , and peacock work fine

I have ad-free, but do sometimes have a problem when starting. A play/pause brings it back.

  • My Hulu is doing the same thing just on Fox live . It's so weird. Any advice on this?

Same problem here too! Just recently subscribed to Hulu with ads. Why hasn’t this issue been fixed? Seems like a lot of users have been having this problem going on for months now.

The issue I’m experiencing is after ads play the program I’m watching resumes and there’s no sound. I have to completely close the app and résumé playing. Sometimes it takes multiple app restarts before the sound returns. As has been suggested on this thread, neither fast forwarding nor reinstalling the app has worked for me. The software version I’m running is 12.5.0 build 4176 CG. I’ve already attempted a software update and it says my software is already up to date.
