Not sure if you're still having this issue but I had the same one tonight. I have an older model Roku TV (maybe a 2018?) and I was trying to watch something on "Max" on my TV. While I've never experienced any problems streaming on my laptop, my TV's picture was off - it was super zoomed in. I messed with the Roku picture settings but no luck.
I found a solution on a Reddit post that worked for me: just back out of whatever you're watching and then click 'resume'. For me, that got rid of the zoom and the picture looked as it should.
Here's the Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/HBOMAX/comments/x4gcm7/wrong_aspect_ratio/
Hope that helps. 🙂
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure if it's a difference in model TV being used or what, but this method hasn't worked for me. 🫤

Hello all, I found a way to manually check for updates on apps. On your home screen scroll to app you want to check and press the * on the remote. It will display a menu that has an option to "check for updates". My T.V. for some reason will update firmware for the T.V. automatically but not apps. I checked multiple apps through this method and found several not update with the latest app firmware. After I updated the app it resolved my "Zoomed In" issue. If it still displays zoomed after the update back out and resume like the reddit post suggests.

I'm glad you found a solution that works for you. Doing everything you said didn't fix the issue entirely so have a new workaround. Opening MAX on my iPad and then using Airplay to cast up to my Roku works great and has never “zoomed-in” yet.
