Audio dropouts when streaming on all apps

For the last year or so I have been having odd Audio issues when playing any streaming service on the Roku 4 Ultra. I find that in some cases while watching any service like paramount, Prime, or Vudu that the audio will either Drop in volume dramaticaly or Increase in gain to a higher distortion rate that is terrible.

Now when this happens I find that exiting the film playing and resuming play will restore the volume and audio as desired yet with enough time the issue will re occur.

Has anyone else seen this with their ROKU devices. I have seen this several times and of course devices are up to date. I am an AV pro technician and work with these devices all the time but have not yet seen any direct link to the issue other than ROKU players is the common issue. Been testing with my other streaming devices ( IE Apple TV ) and have not experienced the same issues yet.

    Welcome! 1slicks4

Audio dropouts might have been bugging your streaming, and we'd like to help find the remedy for that.

We'll try to narrow things down. Have you tried switching to connect the Roku Ultra to another TV and see if the issue persists?

In the meantime, try to Disable Volume Leveling. Go to Settings → Audio → Volume Modes and set it to Off.

Let us know what you find!

My setup is complex as it comes.   Lets see how we can differentiate this.  My house is a matrix house with full video distribution through a savant HDMI chassis.  My media room is direct fed ROKU to avr and I see the same issues in the media room.  All volume leveling is turned off cause we dont use that in pro rooms.  What else can i look at for you.  Hard to say move it to another tv since its on all 5 tvs now through distriubion and the audio distribution as well.   The main room is fed on a basic sound bar from the hdmi feed as it is.  So its the most basic room i have.

I will say that this is the only source out of 8 sources that is having any kind of audio issues.

Thanks for that detailed info! 1slicks4

Prime, Paramount+, Vudu, and all other affected apps all use different encoding pipelines. Some titles may switch from DD+ to stereo or vice versa mid-playback. If you can isolate a title that consistently triggers the issue, it may help us to narrow things down further.

Also, could you tell us the latest software version of your Roku Ultra?

We hope to hear back from you!

        Thanks for the help,

        Software version is 14.6

Due to our audio distribution we are reduced to stereo only, I dont use DD or atmos on the distribution. We currently have the digital output format set to stereo and the streaming format is on auto.  The reason it is reduced to stereo is the savant audio matrix does not support dolby or surround and is setup for stereo only.  My AVR in the media room supports all formats and still experiences the same issue.
