HBO Max error code and can't authenticate

I came on here trying to see if anyone else was having issues streaming HBO max. Looks like I’m not the only one! I either get an error that our device cannot be authenticated or it just sends me right back to the Home Screen. This is insane that so many are having problems steaming since the update and Roku refuses to figure out a fix! May have to go back to using a firestick!

    Thanks for the post.

Try removing the channel from the Roku home screen by navigating to the channel tile, pressing the * key on your remote and choosing 'Remove channel'. Then restart your device from Settings>System>System restart. Once your player starts up again, add the channel back once more.

If you are still seeing the issue occur, you'll want to contact HBO Max support directly to inquire further. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.

    Thanks,
    Danny

RokuDanny-R...I sent you a private message on this already but wanted to let you know publicly that HBO Max says it is a roku issue. For some reason roku isn't recognizing our device for hbo max. I am not even able to get to the sign in page for hbo max. And unfortunately there is no way to manually add a device to an hbo max account either. Any ideas????

Reset the device completely. Factory reset was my last option but it worked.

UserDanny-R…I’ve done that like 20 times and it never fixes the problem. I’ve also talked with HBO max customer support who says it is a Roku issue, although they tried to help me with suggestions that didn’t work either

Their HTTP request doesn't comply with HTTP standards and fails to pass my firewall's proxy:

I'm having this same issue.  Has a fix been found yet?  All of my tvs have Rokus and they all have the same result...will not even take me to a login screen...just keeps going back to the Roku home screen.  Very frustrating.

  • I've done everything suggested here. Cancelled my sub, removed app, restarted Roku, reinstalled, restarted, tried to log in and nothing works.

This is garbage. Spent an hour with HBO to no avail, another hour with Roku, no luck.

    This is shameful.

      Hi edgarallanpoe1,

We apologize this has been your experience.

If the issue is only with the channel alone, this is a good indication that there is likely an issue within that specific channel that will need to be addressed with an update from the channel publisher. Channels on Roku are created and maintained by each channel publisher. In this case, you'll want to reach out to HBO Max support directly to share your feedback.

You can them here: HBO Max Support

Tried that. Spent an hour with them. It's a shame because I love my Roku but this is the second time this has happened. I have an Ultra now and the same thing happened on my previous Roku. Once it happens, good luck ever getting HBO Max to work on your box. I have an Amazon Firebox, and an Apple TV. None of those other boxes have had this happen. Right now, this issue is a deal killer for me because I watch HBOMax all the time. If the Roku cannot consistently work with the HBOMax software then it is of no use to me. HBO says it's on your end, you say it's on their end....as an end user I couldn't care less whose fault it is. The other devices work and as an end user that is really all that matters to me. You guys need to fix this.

  • I reset the internet connection in settings, then reconnected to the wifi... entered my password and everything works fine.

Still not working despite several factory resets and all the advice here.  Bravo guys...oh, and spare me the canned responses.
