Channel access | CLOC screensaver removal

Hello Jim,

First off, THANK YOU for the brilliant CLOC screensaver!  We've thoroughly enjoyed having it these past few years, not the least of which for the weather information. And yes, we have your Private version.

Which leads me to my question:  I've read that all Private "channels" on Roku will be deleted in Feb 2022, if and only "approved" channels, using Roku's toolkit(?) will be available.

With that in mind, is there any good news that CLOC will still be available beyond next month?

Thanks in advance for your...time (sorry, couldn't resist:)

Mark

I will probably get around to finally fixing the public Channel Store version to meet Roku's new criteria.  The private one will definitely go away.  I'm toying with the idea of making it a 99 cent subscription.

Add me to the list of those who would happily pay.  I mean, I just paid $3.99 to install the WeatherFaux screensaver, only to find out that the main screenshot is misleading. The white text goes over bright, HD backgrounds, not only is it not very readable but the colorful backgrounds destroy the purpose of a screensaver for me, it's like leaving your TV on 24/7.

I can't even find a good clock screensaver; the Roku one works well but is too bright. The basic Cloc pauses on me too often, which is a problem b/c it's sometimes what I rely on to tell time after jumping out of bed.

Yep!  99% of the screensavers are **bleep**.  Roku REALLY needs to get rid of most of them.

That would be great, I would hate to lose it.  That green bundle of information "ponging" around our tv screen has become a mainstay!  I for one would be more than happy to pay a subscription.  I'm guessing you are talking about a 99 cent/month.  I would hope that if you do add the subscription price, you would also consider allowing a 'lifetime' option.

Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but do you have other Roku channels?

I've loved this screen saver for years and have used the private version for quite a while.  I understand wanting to charge a subscription and while I don't mind paying for a quality product like yours, I *hate* the subscription model.  I'd much rather pay a larger around ($4.99?) up front.  I understand *why* developers like the subscription model, but speaking for myself I don't think I would ever pay for a product of this type using this model.  I don't do it on my iphone and I wouldn't do it on my Roku.  Good luck and thanks for the years of usage of a GREAT product. And as I said I don't mind paying for it....I just hate getting into monthly obligations like that.

After Roku's removal of all 'private' channels we have reverted to the regular version of "CLOC." It still has the settings to input your zip for the weather info, however, once the screensaver actually kicks on only the time pops up. The weather info is still missing after restarting the Roku as well as removing & adding back the channel. In addition to the missing weather info the screensaver is freezing frequently. This is by far the best time & temperature screensaver on Roku & I am wondering if these issues are going to be remedied? Thanks for any information!

The Private version of the Cloc Screensaver was the solution to a broken version from Roku. At this point, we're out-of-luck with a working screensaver with weather, and without frequent lock-ups.

The broken version isn't from Roku.   It's from me, too.  :smileyhappy:

I'd been using a private screensaver (CLOCPRI) for YEARS.  Because they took it away I started looking around and realized something:  Roku REALLY needs to get their arms around the screensaver situation.  They have almost 1000 screensavers available and 99% of them are hot garbage.  They are blatant money grabs by developers and paid by unsuspecting people thinking they are actually getting something.  I scrolled through them today to see if there was ANYTHING good and there really wasn't.  Most of them are simply slideshows (some with as few as 4 photos!) that cost money.  Who in their right mind would pay that?   They need to filter out most of that **bleep** so people can actually find decent slideshows (even though there aren't many).

Honestly, I'm not trying to start trouble.  I just really wish they'd get a grip on this and make it easier to find decent screen savers.  It is a disservice to all of us.  :-(
