I have had the same problem for weeks and got a brand new Roku stick.
I just went through these steps and it did not work. CW app opens but will not play any selection.

Just to be clear, the OP has a different issue than you - his CW app wont load at all.
You didnt mention your Roku model # or firmware version (Settings/System/About) or app version (highlight the app and press Options (*) on the remote).
I tested The CW app (version 2.2.19) on 9 different Roku devices (7 different models: 2710, 3800, 3810, 3910, 4670, 4800, 3941) all running firmware 10.0.0-4209/10.0.1-4180 using wired or 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz WiFi and it both loaded and played randomly selected content on each of them.
So the app works (loads and plays).
Something in your Roku or network configuration is preventing it from doing so.
1) Need more information: model #, firmware version, app version, error message (detailed broken behavior), etc
2) Check for updates: Settings/System/System update/Check now - try again
3) If you reinstalled the app, you have to follow the steps in this exact order: Remove, Restart, Reinstall - try again
4) Verify that network-based (modem/router/gateway) ad blockers/content filters are disabled.

I am having the same issue cw app won't work I get the main screen but when I go to play a show it freezes on the retrieving bar ..... I have uninstalled/restarted roku and reinstalled the app ....did not work .
All other apps work perfectly
Cw is giving me an error message of no valid bit rates .... any ideas ?

I have the same issues with it the app opens and will play the commercials but then just shows a 33% for the show itself does this on all 3 of our Roku sticks However plays just fine on our Roku tv

I have the same issue. I never used to have the issue. Now I have it with my roku ultras suddenly? Did you change services or anything recently? Who are you using for your home data?

I had to go into my router setting and allow pop ups to make it work.

I’m having the same issue with the app loading but when I try to watch a show it kicks me out of the app. Version is current and I did the uninstall, restarted ROKU, and then reinstall but it still doesn’t work. Everything in the cw app worked just fine up until today so it is not any ad blockers in my router. Something is broken and needs to be fixed either within ROKU or the cw app. I would like to not have to resort to using my phone to finish my show :( please fix it on the tv. I have a 55” TCL ROKU TV that is 3 years old

Does the issue only occur on the CW app or across other channels installed on your Roku device? Also, could you tell us how did you restart your Roku? Is it by unplugging the TV and then plugging it back in?
