My back button on my Roku is not working. It is not working on the remote that came with the Roku and it also doesn't work when I try to use the remote with my phone using the Roku app. All other buttons on the remote are working. I have already tried a system reset.
I have a Roku Ultra model 4660RW, software version 14.6.
The back button randomly stopped working today, August 27th, 2025, and it refuses to work on Fandango, Roku Home, Roku Channel, Pluto TV, Tubi and other apps.
I have tried:
Clearing the cache, unplugging the Roku for 60+ seconds, using different remotes, changing batteries, using the Roku Remote app, and resetting the Roku remote. I even factory reset the Roku, and it hasn't worked.
If anyone has any solution to this problem, please let me know. If there's any additional information that you need, I'll provide it.

Same issue - Roku broke something. To be clear, this is the Back arrow button next to the Home button.
As you said, others are reporting the back button doesn’t even work from the Roku app.
The only workaround I’ve found is toggling on the voice control slider button on the side of the remote (if your remote has one). Toggle it on and see if the button begins working, then try toggling it off. For me, it fixes the probably temporarily at least. There seems to be some link to voice control.
Roku, please get this fixed.

I just went into my Jellyfin app and toggled the voice search and then pressed back and sure enough it restores functionality temporarily. Thank you!
They need to fix this immediately.

I'll try this with my voice remote. Thank you!
Edit:
The suggestion semi-works, but only for a couple of seconds. It's a workaround for now, at least, until they fix whatever they broke. Thank you again, friend.

Same problem here. Just started tonight, Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Everything worked this afternoon
Now the remote's back button will not work for any apps except YouTube. All other buttons work.
The same exact problem occurs when using the remote on the App.
Roku seems to have caused this. Please fix ASAP. Thanks.

Another reply said to toggle voice on your remote (if it's available) and press back, and it should work temporarily. It's a workaround for now.

I have several Roku 4800x Ultras and a few 4K sticks. I've not tried any others, but just now I went to use my living room Ultra and the back button doesn't work on either the remote or the Android app for most channels. Some menu navigation still responds to the back button as expected. I can also see the LED on the front of the device blinking when I hit the button on the remote, indicating it's receiving the key press.
Monumentally frustrating and since my phone app won't work either I assume this is a software bug of some kind.
A quick run through my apps and the YouTube and YouTube TV apps are the only ones that seem to still respond to the back button.

I had same problem. One work-around I found was posted by user WayneRust: When in an app, play content and press the (*) button to launch the Caption / Sound menu. This restored the Back functionality for me on all affected apps (but I had to do it for each app). It's a temp fix; the problem can re-occur.

Mine stopped working also

Same issue here. Thought it was remote itself until I tried a different Roku remote and same issue. The temp fixes only work as long as you're in an App. Otherwise, persists into new Apps. Definitely Roku issue.

Was there a recent update on the Roku Uktra 4K? Back button was working fine yesterday. I have three Roku remotes and paired each one and all of them have no back button response.

Same Roku Ultra back button not working on remote and in the iPhone app. It’s gotta be a firmware or software issue. I almost bought a new remote before checking the iPhone app. Strange how all of our Roku back buttons stop working at the same time. This sucks
