NFL App Error - How to Resolve "Something Went Wrong" Message

Hi Roku Community users,

We're aware that some NFL channel users are encountering an error message "Something went wrong, please try again or go to id.nfl.com/account" when trying to accept the terms of service agreement.

Update: 9/23

Here's how to resolve this issue:

Steps to Fix the Error:

  1. Visit NFL on a web browser: Open a web browser on your computer, phone, or tablet and navigate to https://www.nfl.com/account/sign-in.
  2. Sign Out and Back In If you're already signed in, sign out of your NFL account on the website. Then, sign back in with your credentials.
  3. Accept Consent: Upon signing back in, you should be prompted to re-accept the Terms of Service, Subscription Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy. Please accept all agreements.
  4. Try again: Return to your Roku device and open the NFL app. The error message should be resolved.

Additional Troubleshooting:

  • Restart Roku: If the error persists, try restarting your Roku device. Power it off completely, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Reopen App: After restarting your Roku, open the NFL app again.

If the Issue Continues:

If the above steps don't resolve the problem, please let us know. Our team is working with our partners at the NFL app to find a permanent solution.

Thank You!

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
The Roku Community Team

  • Whelp, I’ve tried all of these fixes and nothing. ANYONE have an actual fix?

    went to nfl too

  • I watched NFL app via ROKU on my Samsung TV last night as always. But today I can’t. I click on other apps which all work. I can watch NFL app on my phone so it’s not their issue.

I removed NFL APP from ROKU thinking I would reinstall it, but when I try to add, it does the same thing:

    1. NFL LOGO appears

    2. Spinning connection symbol spins.

    3. NFL APP menu appears on left side but is grayed out

    4. Then poof! I am returned to screen to add app

I’ve done Roku power reset. Plugged and unplugged. I’ve logged out of NFL APP then logged back in

    nothing works

  • Both of my roku devices won't open the nfl app. It kicked me out and now everytime I open it, it stops and just goes back to the home screen. I've tried restarting my device several times and I un-installed the app and re installed it, stick won't work on both devices.

Good to know I’m not alone — fortunately I’m a Bears fan and they suck so I don’t really care too much right now.

  • This doesn't work - I have the same issue as the other members - has this been resolved yet?

I have an NFL+ subscription separately through NFL but Roku is not recognizing it and allowing me to use it on Roku.

I did all the trouble shooting nfl told me to do and reset my roku, Uninstaller and re installed the app and it starts to load with the blue screen and nfl logo then to a black screen with the loading circle and then kicks me out to the roku home. The app loads maybe 5-7 seconds then kicks me out

I keep seeing all these people saying. Fix the app by resetting your router resetting your TV. Resetting that, it's the app. It's flawed, it takes 8 to 10 seconds to load the **bleep** title page. And every time you click to go to another page. It takes a whole long time to load that. I have 800 mps speed...and it's the only app on my home screen that behaves like this...please FIX!!!!

Welcome and thank you for posting here in the Roku Community, Tobiah!

We'd be happy to be of assistance here and help you log into your NFL channel subscription on Roku.

Firstly, how are you accessing the NFL+ app? Is it directly from the standalone app or inside The Roku Channel? If you have a separate subscription within this app, we highly recommend logging into the standalone app using your credentials.

Furthermore, please note that Roku doesn't manage channel logins or authentication, and many Roku channels are developed and maintained by the channel providers themselves.

If you are having problems logging into your NFL+ subscription account on your Roku, we highly recommend coordinating with the service provider for further assistance. Roku simply hosts the channel on the platform and does not have direct management control over it.

You may reach them here: NFL+ Support

We hope you find this information helpful.

      Warm regards,
      Carly

I used the Roku NFL streaming channel to access my NFL+ Premium subscription last year.  Do not recall how I was able to gain access previously and cannot do so now?

    Hi Roku Community users,

We’ve received reports from NFL app users experiencing the error message "Something went wrong, please try again or go to id.nfl.com/account" when trying to accept the "Terms of Service, Subscription Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy."

    Update: 9/23

To help resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to id.nfl.com/account on a computer, phone, or tablet using a browser.
    2. Sign out of the website (if you’re currently signed in), then sign back in.
    3. After signing back in, you should see a prompt to re-consent. Please try this and let us know if it resolves the issue.
    4. If the consent pop-up does not appear, please sign out and sign back in again.
    5. Once consent is accepted on the website, return to your Roku; the pop-up should be gone.
    6. If the pop-up still appears, restart your Roku, reopen the NFL app, and try again.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please keep us updated. We are actively working with our partners at the NFL app to find a solution. Thank you!

Got it to load finally. I tried the steps above and it didn’t work. Below is what exactly what I did to get it to work. On a side note…I never received a re-consent popup during this entire process.

I went to id.nfl.com/account and signed in and signed out and back in.

I then went to tv app and tried to sign in and it wanted to load but looped back to the Roku home screen when loading “live and upcoming” like it’s been doing for weeks

So I deleted the app from the tv.  Then cleared the cache on the tv twice (home button 5 times, then up button once, then rewind twice, then fast forward twice…this is the process for my tv model…yours may differ)

I then went back to id.nfl.com/account and signed in.

Then went back to my tv and reinstalled the nfl app.  Opened it up and it loaded up after some tense moments and flashes and spinning circles on the “live and upcoming screen.”

I am currently watching GameDay Final live right now after the WAS/CIN game.

I hope this helps some people out.  This has been extremely frustrating.  I will post throughout the week and especially on Sunday my results of trying to load the app up.

      thank you

NFL app keeps crapping out when I try to load it — I restarted Roku and replaced the app — didn’t help.

  • NFL app on my tv does not have the option to remove it so I can re-install it. resetting ROKU does not work. I tried for hours on 20 OCT 24 to fix this. No joy! Please advise.

I have 2 things that happened to resolve my issue.

1: I factory reset one of my Roku's and created a new Roku account using a different email. Then I was able to login to NFL app and everything worked.

      2. About a week later there was an update that occurred and after I updated my other Roku's, the NFL app worked properly on all of them.

      Good Luck!

  • This is terrible I cannot get this error resolved and haven’t been able to watch for weeks!

I am happy to say that I’m back online!  Received a private message with the following instructions:

”… Please perform a software update by going to Settings > System > Software Update > Check Now. If there is a new version available, please download it. After the update, try launching the app again to see if the issue has been fixed.”  The solution solved the problem.

  • This app is the biggest POS. I’m paying for this subscription and I can’t even get this app to start.
