I recently bought a Roke Express 4k+ which has the volume control remote. Although I know that this is used to control tvs with an IR receiver. i was wondering if there could be an upcoming feature that will allow you to use the remote to control the volume through the software because HDMI does support this. My main use case for this is streaming on my ultrawide monitor, if the volume could be controlled through the software i wouldn't have to physically go to my monitor to change its volume up and down.
The Roku Streambar supports this, so they have the software.
The cheaper remote controls lack the volume control buttons, so would need to upgrade to voice remote to get that.
Looks like another brand beat them to the punch. Not gonna name any names, but really this feature should have been rolled out from the getgo, especially on their wifi remote (rocketstick.)
Its nice the roku express finally comes with physical volume buttons on their remotes... its never, and i repeat: NEVER, a good idea to design a tv/media remote without any physical volume buttons or controls. I shouldn't have to elaborate on this.
NEXT suggestion: on you're wifi remotes (is the rocketstick still around?) set a feature where if it's lost you can ring it through your roku app or streamer. Sure this will require an inexpensive rudimentary speaker (maybe similar to what u find in one of those musical bday cards.. or not) but well worth it in my opinion.
I can see this being very useful with roku systems built into tv's esp, since the remote is shared and tends to get misplaced.
Beat them to the punch on this one... c'mon...
