Streaming Stick 4k HDHomeRun Flex 4K no audio

(edit: I corrected the tuner ATSC to the correct value of "1.0" not "2.0")

I've got a Roku Streaming Stick (3800 series) # and a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex 4K. The Streaming Stick is connected to a Samsung UN75H6350AFXZA and the TV uses a SONOS PlayBar through an optical cable.

I'm tuning to ASTC 1.0 channels and the HDHR channel won't play audio. I've tried tinkering with the Streaming Stick's audio settings, but haven't found anything that will work.

The puzzling thing is that the same HDHomeRun tuner is on my Plex server and if I use the same tuner through Plex, I get audio on this TV.

Also puzzling is that I had the same Streaming Stick connected to a different, newer Samsung TV (UN55MU6290FXZA, UHD model), and did not have audio issues through the HDHR channel. I've also done a factory reset on the Streaming Stick, to no avail.

Also puzzling is that the HDHomeRun app on my Mac, to the same tuner, has audio.

Anyone have any suggestions?

What happens if you take the Sonos Playbar out of the equation?

No change.

I unplugged the optical cable from the TV, changed the speaker settings to "TV Speakers", verified that audio was coming thru other channels (including Plex Live TV coming from the same SiliconDust tuner), but still no audio joy from the HDHR Roku channel; not with ATSC 1.0 broadcasts, nor with ATSC 3.0 broadcasts.

Is there any chance the Plex server is doing some transcoding and that's why you get audio via the Plex app?

I don't have the same equipment as you, but I have similar (minus the SONOS).  I have a HDHomerun Quatro, a 3600 stick (among several other Roku models), and a new and very old Samsung TV.  I get sound with every Roku device and every TV.  Do you get an option for another audio track?  Press * while the video is playing and look under "Accessibility & language".  I don't think I've ever seen anything other than "Single track".

You can (or should be able to) use the Roku Media Player to access your tuner.  I wouldn't expect it to give different results, but it may be worth trying.

Re: Streaming Stick 4k HDHomeRun Flex 4K no audio

I believe Plex does a lot of transcoding.

what is puzzling is that a different Samsung TV (albeit newer) didn’t have the issue. I’ll verify that, again.

RMP did, indeed, “find” my HDHR tuner, but the content is unplayable. It plays it at about 3-4 times the speed it should, then buffers. Then plays in fast motion.

I’ll try to dig into the audio codecs supported by the TVs

An Apple TV with the HDHR app on the same TV plays just fine.
