ROKU scrolls, plays, pauses on its own. Is not the remote!

My ROKU Express is scrolling, playing, pausing on its own. It is not the remote. I have replaced the entire unit with remote and still have the same issue. I have even taken batteries out of my TV remote to make sure it wasn't interfering with anything. I need a solution as access to other TV services is difficult where I live and don't give some "canned response" about passing it on. We veterans do stick together.

@mhoflin

But have you taken the batteries out of the Roku remote? You said you took the batteries out of the TV remote. Good troubleshooting, but not far enough. Does it happen if there are no batteries in the Roku remote?

Yes, I had the batteries out of all devices (2 remotes). I first 5hought it was Netflix acting up, but after going through their support and seeing it happen on RaOKU home screen as well as Prime and others, I then replaced entire unit but still happens. Is there any known interference issues or anything else?

Thank you for the quick response.

If you had the batteries out of the Roku remote, and it still scrolled, then it's not the remote.

It could be an issue with the Roku device itself, but I'm reading you've had this with two Roku devices. That doesn't rule it out, but it brings the probability way down to where it's probably not that.

Roku devices can get remote commands three ways. Well, the Express can't do one of those, so two ways for your device. One is an infrared (IR) signal, which is what the remote for the Express uses. The other is a command over the network, such as via the Roku app for a smartphone.

With the remote ruled out (no batteries means it can't be the cause), that means there could be some other source of an IR signal. This may sound silly, but if you completely cover the Roku device, does it still happen. I mean completely cover it. Block all light in any form from getting to it. You could put a piece of black electrical tape across the front, or place a box and towel over it. Anything to block light. If that stops it, then you have to troubleshoot your environment for the source of the stray IR signals.

If it continues, then it's not stray IR. That leans to network. Turn off your router. Unplug it. Does the Roku still act up? If so, then it's not the network, and that leads back to the device, which was mostly (but not completely) ruled out.

Good point, I just noticed it doesn't seem to act up at night... I will try the covering it up, I will actually try with aluminum foil.
