I have Streaming Stick SKU# 3600R and simple remote Model RC80. The remote was paired with the Roku for about a month, then the remote stopped operating. I checked the batteries and tried the normal pairing procedure, although I noticed the pairing light on the remote never started blinking. This procedure didn't work.
Next, I removed the power connection from the Streaming Stick and removed it from its HDMI connection. I also removed the batteries from the remote. After a few minutes, I plugged everything back in, replaced the batteries, and held the pairing button on the remote. This procedure didn't work either.
So I held the Reset button on the Roku for 10 seconds for a factory reset. I also held the pairing button on the remote, and the Roku came up a blue screen with white letters asking what language I wanted. Clearly it had reset, but still no luck on the remote. This time, when I was trying to use the remote to enter English, the screen changed to a picture showing the back of the remote and telling me to pull the batteries for :05 seconds. I did that, no luck. It still didn't work. I've used many Rokus, but never had any problems with remote pairing. It always seemed to do it automatically, especially after a reset.
Any suggestions?
If you can't get the pairing light to flash, I'd guess there's a problem with the remote. The remote that came with the 3600 is pretty old at this point, but on newer remotes in addition to using the pairing button (if present) you can also press and hold the Home and Back buttons (the two buttons at the top of the remote next to each other) simultaneously for 5 seconds or so to get the pairing light to flash. I don't know if that will work on that remote.
That's very old model of Roku and remote, remotes do go bad. I would not purchase a new remote for that old Roku stick, I'll get a new Roku model that comes with remote for almost same cost that replacement remote would cost alone. And newer Roku's with wifi remotes have tv controls on them.
