Roku Direct Publisher

[newchannel]

I added a couple of videos today and in json lint it validates fine but when I went to  update it in roku it gave me an error. Unable to find the problem, I went back and used the copy of the json from before I added the videos today. Then, when I went to validate it in roku, it gave me the same errors. But, one thing I don't understand is a few hours before I tried to validate the copy with the new videos added,I read that the feed had validated just fine earlier in the day. So, why now using the same feed info it is not validating when I went back to the original json?

The channel using the feed is currently working and I am still in the process of checking all of the video links so how can it say it's not validating when the channel is working and the videos are playing? 

Has anyone else gotten such errors today? Maybe its some weird fluke...

Here is what error it is giving me.

I also added back the json that validated last for the working channel. It is giving the same errors yet the channel is playing just fine.

What video details could be missing...I have no idea.  My feed has the video portion of my json  with the video url, quality, videoType and bitRate. 

The  channel has been working perfectly and I have been having no trouble adding new content until today. It's got me stumped. Not able to add any new content until I can get this figured out. And, the acl is set properly on my server so I have no idea how in a matter of hours a feed can validate perfectly and later the same file give errors. And, I have checked all of the video links and they are working.

Do not assume that if your feed passes a lint test your feed is ok.  The lint test does not check for all errors, especially logic errors.  Without seeing your feed file, I would guess from the errors you show that you've got a misplaced bracket ("[").  If you post your feed file, I can validate it using software I have written.

I'll double check the brackets first. Thanks for this tip. After I had the problem, I went back to the original feed that has been working for a week since I had made other changes. That feed had of course validated just fine a week ago with no errors so I figured going back to it before any changes had been made then it would of course validate again and I could begin again to add new content. But, I continued to get the same errors even backing up to the last validated feed. I find this rather odd.

These types of errors are typical if you are managing your feed file "by hand" with an external editor like Notepad.  It's very easy to make syntactical errors that invalidate the feed file.

I agree it's easy to make a mistake. It's been very helpful to use the jsonlint and the json editor. I just now made a copy of the actual json feed that is currently working on the channel. Then, added this new copy to my server under a different file name, set the acl and using my test channel in direct publisher and it to is giving me the same errors. How a working feed with no changes and only a copy, past, save, validate in jsonlint then place on server, set acl and test can give the same errors without any editing of the content is really a strange one.

Some of the messages don't appear to be critical.  I suggest you take a closer look at your feed file since some of it does not comply to the stated Roku Json spec.

Hi,

I appreciate your help. This is so strange.the feed has been validating in roku week after week except this past week. it validated and is playing. the one with the new videos did not get added. i can;t wrap my brain around what has changed all of a sudden to give errors. I sure appreciate you doing this. I will look over it in more detail today.

It's as if somehow I've copied part of an old json into my new one. So far that is the only explanation I can figure out as to how this file got messed up. I've corrected all of the tag errors so far except I'm trying to figure out what is meant by a category tag for series errors. I have a category for the series and it refers to a playlists and I have the ID numbers of each series listed in the playlist. Even after fixing all of the other tags and removing a duplicate video it went from 140 errors to 139 so what I did has not fixed the problem so far.

For the date...I updated it as follows. Not sure yet what else is causing the problem but I'll keep digging into it.

I normally copy my last working json and then add videos and save as a different file name. It's been working each week all along. If it's a missing bracket I have not found it yet.

A note about "required video details".....

I don't see what is missing. I did see a bitrate was not on a video and I added it and then tried to validate the feed on roku to watch the error message to see if it would change but it remained the same.

You should take a look at the Roku Json spec. That may shed some light on your issues. BTW...I don't think the format of the date you posted is correct.
