My 3600x defaults to 720p but I want to change it to 1080p since my TV supports it. However, when I go to the Settings->Display type menu, I only get Composite options (see attached image). What gives? The 3600x stick only has an HDMI connector. I’ve connected it to 2 different TVs and same thing, defaults to 720p and only allows me to change to Composite in the Display type.
And even more strange, on a 3rd TV, nothing comes up on the screen when I connect the 3600x, it stays blank as if nothing is in the HDMI port.
Any ideas what’s wrong? I tried a factory reset as well as a 10 second reset button reset, neither helped
That's bizarre. Have you tried moving up or down to see if the other options are available, but just hidden? Years ago you could enable all resolutions, so I know it used to be possible to have a 3600 offer SD resolutions, but Roku took that ability away for unknown reasons. When you did the factory reset did you use the menu or using the reset button? If you use the reset button make sure you hold it in for no less than 30 seconds regardless of what's happening onscreen.
Those are the only two options, 4:3 composite and 16:9 composite.
I did both the software factory reset and the physical reset button reset. I just did the physical reset button reset again and for good measure I held it down for almost a minute, still the same problem. Any other suggestions.
A side note, this HDMI resolution problem seemed to have carried over from 9.3.0. However, aside from not being able to change the HDMI resolution, everything else seems to be working well with 9.4.0. Amazon Prime Video no longer kicks me out to the menu automatically after 5-10 minutes of playback like it did in 9.3.0.
Are you sure of the model number [Settings > System > About]? 3600 is the Roku stick released in 2016 and it supported only 720p and 1080p over HDMI. It had no composite output provisions.
That’s exactly why I’m so confused, my 3600 stick only has HDMI. I don’t know why the Display type menu only has Composite options for me to select. Must be some sort of software bug (or maybe hardware). At this point I’m just wondering if anyone else has seen this before and if there is a solution. Here is a picture of my about screen:
That's just weird. I don't know what else to suggest. What happens if you choose one of those SD settings?
The screen starts flashing and I can only use the remote in between flashes. And so far, the only way I have figured out to get out of this state is to hold the reset button down.
I had this problem with 9.3.0 as well. I was hoping 9.4.0 would fix it, but it didn’t.

Well, that's downright strange. This is way beyond my experience so my only suggestion is to make sure Roku rep Danny @RokuDanny-R sees this (which my inclusion of his profile link should accomplish).
