Hi, just wondering if the parental control feature is coming or already in the works for our roku devices? Like when you sign into netflix, amazon, disney, etc, there's different profiles you can set up, but it requires a pin for anything over PG rating. However, when you turn on the tv, roku is just fully available, no profiles or limits in place to prevent just having the access fully available. It is imperative that your tech team puts this in place for your customer base going forward, since the majority of your subscribers have families, and when you turn on the tv to the roku device, it's like handing an unlocked phone or computer to your kid and giving them unlimited access to any and all content. Yes, it comes down to parents to monitor, but as time goes on and they get older, these controls are imperative, especially when they're growing and become teens, these safeguards with a pin and controls in place allows some proactive prevention to be in place. PLEASE work on this, on behalf of all parents with a roku device
Big issue with the only PIN you can use is they can see what you type on the screen if you want to use it, or want to give them temporary use! I have to tell them to leave the room so I can type the number on the screen keypad! Parental controls are very lacking. Each app should be able to be locked separately. Right now it's all or nothing.
For information about additional parental controls for a specific channel, you would want to contact the channel provider's support directly. Many channels on Roku are developed and maintained by the channel provider themselves.
I agree with the OP and I find the reply from the Roku agent (Danny R) lacking. Parents are looking for a universal way of locking a Roku device and/or allowing or blocking access to certain apps based on a profile. Time-based access (allowing access only between certain hours and/or for only a certain number of hours) would be a welcome feature. It seems that Roku has outsourced its thinking and functionality on parental controls to the streaming apps. Given its leadership in streaming originally, one would expect Roku to be a leader in many areas of functionality, but this is not one of them.
