strange hls streaming behavior

my video will start playing super fast and then if i pause or go back or forth it will go back to normal.

or it will start out normal the first play but then it loops back and will start playing the video again very fast.

The audio stays the same however each time.

I thought it was an encoding issue but then it should be doing it all the time wrong. anyone noticed this issue before?

Re: strange hls streaming behavior

How are you encoding your video? What HLS server are you using?

Re: strange hls streaming behavior

The video player is sensitive to timestamps, fps rates, and hls duration times of segments... All these must be correct. If you are using standard encoders and writing your own hls server, I'd look at that hls server first. Check your segment durations and make sure the .m3u8 duration matches and that the segment numbers are generated correctly.

Re: strange hls streaming behavior

i am not using timestamps in the playlist, should I?

the example i am using is actually a complete video no segments, the second time around is just playing the same video again.

so its strange that one time it works fine next time no.

Re: strange hls streaming behavior

I'm not sure what you mean by "the second time". Are you putting the same TS file into the m3u8 playlist twice? That won't work because the timestamps in the stream must always increase monotonically. If you start playing the same file again, the timestamps will jump back down to zero (or whatever the first timestamp in the file is). Perhaps it would help if you could explain what you're trying to do.
