Yet Another n00b Who Wants to Make a Channel

I've been going through the forums for a while, have the current SDK and am interested in building my own Roku channel. Specifically for this site.

What I'd like to do is set up the channel to browse through featured videos, subscription updates, high, mid and low level contributors, and by system. I haven't done a lot of coding in years, so I'm a bit rusty. Would I be wrong to look at BrightScript like I would Java?

EDIT:
I actually meant Java, not JavaScript.

I don't want to burst your bubble buddy but all the videos on that site are hosted on You Tube. Even the so called podcasts are. Streaming from You Tube is not a simple task and I'm not sure is allowed by You Tube.

Someone else on these forums might want to throw their 2 cents worth in also.

Re: Yet Another n00b Who Wants to Make a Channel

I'm well aware the videos are hosted on YouTube, I'm a contributor to the site myself Smiley LOL

First and foremost, it's Google, the parent company, who has a problem with the streaming, mainly with set top boxes, which is kind of silly considering internet ready TVs have YouTube on them. I know it wouldn't be an easy task, but I'm sure it could be done.

nowhereman has created a YouTube channel and YouTube already encodes their videos in h.264 so it's very possible.

Hmm... I'm going to have to take a look at this.

I just installed it on my box, I have yet to use the username option. Overall, it's awesome.
