The Private channel feature on the Roku DVP is AWESOME. As a (new) developer, I see *very* obvious advantages. I can develop using the "sideloading" (make install) technique, but when I want to share my progress with my customer, I am able to give them a channel code. That way they don't have to setup developer mode, edit code, load zip files, etc. It has worked out VERY well so far. I think more of the folks who want to share their channels should fix them so that people don't have to edit code to make them work (see bcl's media app that puts a keyboard at the beginning to type in the server url) and post them as private channels.
SUGGESTION:
Create a sub-forum beside the "General" and "SDK" support forums for people to LIST their channels. (INDEX -> Roku Digital Video Player -> Private Channels) That would also keep the "advertising" traffic to a minimum inside the support forums.
