Packaging Clarification
It was stated that even large apps were around 50k.
http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=28416
I'm obviously misunderstanding how to package.
The manifest requires 4 image files, even with png8
in the sizes required I can't get them under about 28k each.
So I packaged and uploaded with none, thinking the images we
specified in the upload would be used. They either were not or
I need to specify something different in the manifest or there
is someway to retrieve them from our server in the manifest?
Even jpgs at 6k each still comes to 24k for 4.
So I only used 1 image for all 4, but the package was still 59k.
I can see I only have about 20k of code so I'm assuming there is a way
to package without the images.
Could someone set me straight on this?
Thanks

Re: Packaging Clarification
Not to contradict someone from Roku, but I've successfully uploaded packages that were close to 2meg and what I would call a simple channel I created was still 163k. I didn't make any attempt to make the simple one smaller, but I doubt I could get it to 50k. It would pretty much have to contain no images, which isn't feasible.

Re: Packaging Clarification
That's what I was thinking, it would have to have no images and I couldn't
figure out how to make that happen. Thanks.

Re: Packaging Clarification
Please do contradict Roku posters when we post something that doesn't seem right!
50k is doable, but it would be a very small app..... Real apps should be less than about 500k....
There is a max size that the box enforces, but it is much larger than anything that would be submitted as a public channel in the Roku Channel store.
You should be shooting for apps less than about 500k. This can be done by hosting most of the large content on your website and referring to it through urls.

Re: Packaging Clarification
Sorry, but I had to wonder if you meant 500k and not 50k. I know an app could be under 50k (I have at least one), but it seemed a little ambitious for most apps with any kind of included graphics. I was mostly trying to inform the OP that larger apps should be able to be uploaded without a problem, not that people should be shooting for large apps.
Again, sorry...
