Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Yeah, rss_server.py hasn't been updated in ages. I'd just drop the new files in the same place and launch mymedia.py. You probably won't notice any obvious difference, but you should be able to play MKVs.

The server you use (whether it be Plex, or DLNA, or MyMedia) has very little to do with performance if it's not transcoding. In general, the "channel" just gives a URL to a video file and the player takes over, so I'd expect the same results on the same video no matter how you play it, but I suppose anything can happen. There may be some difference between playing via USB and streaming, but I pretty much never use USB, so I can't really say. I do remember when MKVs were only supported via USB. In my limited use of streaming MKVs, I'm not impressed. The instant replay and FF/REW seem to be much better with just a plain ol' MP4 file.

Re: My Media

Thanks. I'll put the files in place and change my desktop shortcut to launch things.
I decided at one time that I had to pick one device and rip to meet its needs, and I picked the Oppo. Problem is that its too old and doesn't support mp4. Now I have all files in mkv format. Still mysteries. I have one that seems to play fine everywhere but on the oppo, but their support is so good they're having me upload it to them to test. As old as the bpd-83 is, there still was a firmware update last month. I don't think the roku gets firmware updates, or even channel updates offen enough.
I know that some of my mkv files have no audio when played usb thru roku. Don't know what that's about.

Did this and when I launch mymedia.py I get a brief black box for a second, then it closes. Must not be doing something right here.

Try opening a cmd window and launch it from the command line - "python mymedia.py". You should be able to see what's going wrong.

Well that path didn't get it so used the full filepath and get this:
C:\>Python26\python C:\roku_media_server-ExtremeAvocado\server\mymedia.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\roku_media_server-ExtremeAvocado\server\mymedia.py", line 31, in <mod
ule>
from django.template import Template, Context
ImportError: No module named django.template

That may mean something to you.
***Update***
Downloaded fresh copy of extreme avocado and now I get the proper window response. I'll test streaming later today.
Thanks

***UPDATE***
Works like a dream. Just finished ripping the DVD of Finding Nemo, mkv with separate srt file, 5.1 sound, all is good.
Thanks again!

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

That's it, except the Python files have been updated since then. The files in those links don't support MKV files.

You can find the updated links in this post:

It should still be there. I'm not sure if it's available in all parts of the world. Where are you located?
