Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

A bit more detail: The default was 127.0.0.1:8001, and the IPv4 (listed under Ethernet adapter) is 192.168.1.140, but neither work.

Oh....the default IP to access the configuration page!

You can leave the default IP (or use http://localhost:8001) to access the server configurations. Make sure you are running the server before you open the page and that it says...submitting 'http://192.168.1.140:8001' to rendezous server as [your registration code]...about the 5th line down in the server box. If your code is missing it won't work right and you need to start the initial code registration part over (but don't redownload anything).

Just make sure your IP (192.168.1.140) is correct on the configuration page once you get access to it.

Just to clarify: When you're sitting at the computer that's running the MyMedia server you should be able to access it using this link:

http://127.0.0.1:8001/

This is because the address "127.0.0.1" is globally understood to be "this computer I'm at right now".

If that link doesn't work it means that your server isn't running (or that you configured the MyMedia server to run on a port other than 8001... in which case just tweak that link accordingly.) So, if that link isn't working make sure you start your server according to the instructions at http://rokumm.appspot.com/walkthrough (step #3) before moving on. It sounds to me like at some point in your setup the link did work because you were able to figure out that your server IP was incorrect.

Now, when you're at the MyMedia configuration page (http://127.0.0.1/configure) the address you need for server address is your internal network IP address. It sounds like you've figured out that this is 192.168.1.140 for you. If you put in that address, click save, and then close and reopen the channel it *should* automatically pick up that IP address and connect to your server.

If it doesn't work, open your channel's "settings" item and verify that the server address was automatically picked up to be what you set in the configuration before. If it isn't, fix it manually and definitely tell us about it on this thread so that we can make sure that the automatic sync is working in the case when we aren't able to automatically guess your IP address correctly.

Good luck! Thanks for dropping in.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

It worked -- thanks canaws and el.wubo. I guess mymedia wasn't running for some reason, but the ip address was OK.

Now I understand that part, but when I select MyMedia on Roku, it is stuck on Server Configuration with a new code. After re-entering this code on the PC and saving my server config, nothing happens on the Roku/TV . . ..

Make sure you enter the new code at http://rokumm.appspot.com/ again too.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Actually -- requiring you too enter the code again when you already have put it into the server was a bug in the registration process. I've fixed it. Hopefully you're all linked up now!

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Aahh, a bug -- keeping me on my toes! Yes, it's OK now, thanks.

But . . . no picture or music files available on the Roku, even though I have the correct path. Does it take some time to set up (I've waited 15 mins)?

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Do you at least see the Music and Video options on the first screen? If you do then you know the channel has linked up with your server.

It should be pretty instantaneous with displaying the current contents of the folders. Try pressing Windows + R and copy-pasting one of your paths into the "run" box that pops up. If the folder opens then you've got it right.

Also verify that the contents of the folders have extensions that the roku can recognize. Are there mp3's, wma's, and/or m4v's?

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Yup, the channel is linked and I see the folders, and the music is vanilla mp3s. I had the wrong path originally, noticed it, corrected it, but the folders still don't show anything available.

Another strange thing -- the My Media picture folder has disappeared. Music, video, etc. still there. Hmmm . . ..

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

update -- Sorry, you were right again. Wrong path (minor error). Now my photos and music folders appear, and filled with my stuff!

Thanks for helping a newbie, non-developer limp my way through this. Great channel application!
