Beginner
Is there a "how-to" guide for creating a channel? I've read through the developer docs, but I am really confused. I don't have any experience as a developer, but have some ideas that I'd like to try. I just have no idea how to get started. Is there a software program I need? Do I have to provide my own content or can I use content from a site like CBS.com to create a channel? I need just some very basic guidance on building a channel. I have a lot of technological ability, so I think I could catch on quick.

Re: Beginner
The RokuDvp-DeveloperGuide.pdf has the information you will need to get started. Don't worry about any of the channel publishing documentation initially.
It will probably help to look at the example channels included with the SDK. You'll find them in the /examples directory where you installed the SDK (simplevideoplayer is a great one to start with).
All you need is a simple text editor, a .zip utility, and a web browser to load your channel to the Roku to test.
Have fun!

It's part of the SDK download, In the "documents" folder.
Or it's available separately at http://c1807832.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspac ... rGuide.pdf
All the SDK materials are linked from the developer homepage at https://owner.roku.com/Developer/Home/

Re: Beginner
Is the idea of a channel that shows a screen shot or better yet a loop of local weather radar out of the question for the Roku ?
I have some programming background in Progress and Unix scripts, so on the surface it seems like it would be doable, but no knowledge of the language used for the Roku.
I know there a several websites that offer the information.
Thanks….

Re: Beginner
Could you provide the sites providing high level tutorials...
I am working on some communications project, more like Google Voice implementation. DOnt have much experianc ein programming, but can get help from developers (my peers).
But I am getting difficulty in getting much details outside the manual/ref docs...
