Remote power level keeps flashing on screen

My RC-MC1 remote is a rechargeable device. It works the system fine, but recently has started flashing its power level on the screen every 10 seconds or so. No idea why. It has no obvious damage. When I go to settings I don't have the option to "forget device".

  • Hi jodola,

    Thanks for keeping us updated!

Have you tried doing a system restart and pairing your Roku Voice Remote Pro again to see if the issue persists? If not, we highly recommend doing a system restart by navigating to Home and then going to Settings > System > System Restart. Once you've done this step, press and hold the pairing button at the back of your Roku remote for 30 seconds, then press again for 5 seconds when a green light starts blinking. Wait to see a prompt for the remote pairing.

Please let us know how it works.

    All the best,
    Kash

  • Welcome and thank you for posting here at the Roku Community, Jodohi!

We sincerely regret any trouble this may have caused you and appreciate you for trying to troubleshoot your remote.

If you want to remove an existing remote connected to your TV, navigate to your Home screen. Scroll up or down to select Settings > Remotes and Devices. Please be aware that you can't remove an existing remote through your TV if it is the only one connected to it. But you can reset it by pressing and holding the Back and Home button simultaneously for about 30 seconds to reset/unpair.

Furthermore, rest assured that our Support team has been made aware of your concern and will send you a separate email for further assistance. Kindly keep an eye out on your inbox.

Kindly let us know if you have further clarification. We'd be glad to help.

In the meantime, you can install the Roku mobile app as an alternative to a physical remote. It works well with all of Roku's streaming devices or TVs and has a private listening feature.

  • I also have the same issue with my roku remote. It started about a 3 weeks ago. The annoying power level keeps flashing on right top corner of the screen every 5 sec. I have tried all the pairing suggestions but it is still the same.

      Hi jbhabashi,

Thanks for sharing your issue with your Roku device in the Roku Community!

Have you tried restarting your Roku device and seeing if the message disappeared? We recommend doing this from the Settings menu by navigating to Settings > System > Power (if you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step.) > System restart.

Please keep us posted if the issue persists.

      All the best,

      Chel

I have tried the restart steps, it didn't work. I unplugged the roku device, it didn't work. The software is updated. I have tried pairing options, again it didn't work. I cannot remove the remote's battery because it is a rechargeable remote. It seems this problem started about a month ago for so many users. Isn't it a sign that there is a systematic issue with remotes probably last software update, or something of this type? Anyway, first it was annoying but now the remote responding very slow, because most of the time it is trying to get paired with device, which makes it useless.

    Hi Lazerloss1

Thanks for reaching out to the Roku Community.

Have you tried re-pairing the remote and see if it helps? To do this, follow the steps below.

Put your streaming device in pairing mode:

    1. Remove the power cable from your streaming device
    2. Wait at least 5 seconds
    3. Re-connect the power cable
    4. Wait for your streaming device to power on, and the Home screen to appear on your TV screen
    5. Within 30 seconds of seeing the Home screen on your TV screen, put your voice remote into pairing mode

Put your voice remote in pairing mode:

    1. Press and hold the pairing button on your voice remote for 20 seconds. The status light should slowly flash green, stop, and then flash rapidly. When this happens, release the pairing button and your remote will restart.
    2. Press and hold the pairing button for 5 seconds, or until you see the status light begin to flash. If the light does not flash, charge your remote.
    3. Wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your streaming device.

Once your streaming device and remote are connected, the pairing dialog will appear on your TV screen. And then observe if you still get the problem after.

    Keep us posted.

I have the same issue, and I followed these steps, but it didn't help.  I have the 4802X Roku Ultra, SN X01000P8HA67, software 12.0.0 build 4184-C2, and the Voice Remote Pro model RC795, firmware rtn.4228, with a rechargeable battery, so I can't remove the battery cover or replace it.  I've had the device for about 3 months and I've had to charge the remote twice.  The second time was two nights ago - I got the message in the upper right corner saying "Remote Control" with a battery level indicator showing 1 red bar.  I charged the remote overnight.  Then yesterday evening and this evening, while trying to watch my shows, the "Remote Control" message started popping up, with full green bars, would stay on screen for 5 seconds, go away for 5 seconds, come back on for 5 seconds, ad infinitum.  While it's doing that, besides being a constant annoyance while trying to watch a show, it also makes the remote less responsive.  I often have to hit a button more than once for the command to register.  I got out my old Roku Express remote, because there is no lag, but the messages about the Voice Remote Pro continue on.  I followed the steps you listed - I unplugged the power cable from the Roku, waited 5 seconds, and plugged it back in, and the moment it restarted and was back on the home screen again, the "Remote Control" messages started again.  I continued with the pairing steps anyway, and the messages haven't stopped.  It there a way to unpair, and disassociate that remote altogether so I can just use the old remote?  Do I have to do a factory reset?  I've read several posts in this forum with people having the same issue, and factory resets didn't fix their issue, but maybe they were repairing the same remote.  Thank you!

Since the remote uses the same Wi-Fi channel as the stick, try changing your Wi-Fi channel on your router.  Another thing to try is switching from a 5GHz channel to a 2.4GHz channel or vice versa.  Don't use "Auto" for your channel.  Pick one and stick with it unless/until you find a good reason to change it.

  • I wonder if there was some sort of update that was pushed, because this just started to happen to my Voice remote pro Monday the 17th of July.  My remote has worked fine for 10 months and was bought as a replacement for the standard remote that was defective that came with my system. I have done all the steps advised here and nothing seems to work.

The only thing that I have to add is that when the issue started the battery notice came up on the screen showing 1 red bar.  This was fine as I hadn't charged it in a month.  I plugged it in to charge and a few hours later came back to use it to turn on Roku TV. That is when the issue started for me.

  • Lazerloss1 @Is the ex-mc1 remote a Roku remote? I didn’t know they have a rechargeable remote? Or is it from a 3rd party vendor?
