Connect Roku Sideclick/Ultra to 15 yr. ONKYO rec/amp for surround sound?

Roku Ultra is connected to Samsung 'smart' tv and works fine. However, Ultra remote with attached sideclick will not control audio surround sound. Rec/amp is 15 year old ONKYO which works fine using the ONKYO remote. Sideclick remote will not program/connect to ONKYO remote?? All connections are HDMI, new batteries, etc. Tried everything. Help!  Joseph.  [content removed]

Re: Connect Roku Sideclick/Ultra to 15 yr. ONKYO rec/amp for surround sound?

That would be new batteries in BOTH remotes right? The onkyo remote may not be powerful enough for sideclick to see, but is still enough to control the receiver itself, not the same thing. Get yourself a new cheap universal that has the onkyo commands just to teach the sideclick, only has to be done once. Your Samsung remote doesn't have the onkyo commands to teach?

Did you try teaching some non-onkyo commands to sideclick, see if its the sideclick or your technique?

Re: Connect Roku Sideclick/Ultra to 15 yr. ONKYO rec/amp for surround sound?

Thanks for the note here. Sideclick products were not manufactured or sold by Roku, and we are not able to help support them. You would need to reach out to the manufacturer for more help.

You might consider a different universal remote for use with your receiver. If the receiver support HDMI ARC & CEC, you might try using an updated Roku Enhanced Voice Remote to see if this may work, but it is not guaranteed for all A/V receivers or soundbars.

Thanks,
