Re: Falsely saying I’ve connected a new device

I have the same thing happening. Somewhere an update that contained a bug has been distributed causing this issue. My TV is a Hisense TV. Roku needs to do a quality check on the latest update.

Re: Falsely saying I’ve connected a new device

I was a pro programmer for ~30 years and wouldn't be too hard on Roku for missing a weird bug in a minor software update.

I WILL be hard on Roku if they don't resolve this quickly. It should be fairly easy to find and fix (or simply back out) the change that caused the problem.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar

Mine is doing the same thing. TV is only a couple months old and just started doing this about a week or so ago. Very annoying. With this many reported problems of the same issue, it has to be something on Roku’s end.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar

I am having the same exact issue with a Sony receiver using the ARC connection.  This just started within the last week or so.

I’m having the same issue I read all comments on this and see no solution.

Re: Falsely saying I’ve connected a new device

Started happening to me also, on both of my Series 4 Roku TCLs, but not my newer TCLs that have Google for the OS.  One of the televisions has an Xbox series X, and Amazon Fire cube, and a Nintendo switch.  The other TV has an Xbox One and a PlayStation 4.  They are both doing it on All inputs.  This is not an issue with this gentleman Samsung soundbar, this is an issue with the Roku OS.  Funny thing is, both TV show the last update back in January and this just started happening.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar

MANY, MANY people (including me!) with Roku TVs have VERY RECENTLY started having this problem lately! (See Reddit link below) The pop up message: "We noticed you connected a new device to HDMI.." repeatedly pops up. Tonight, just in the past hour, the irritating message has popped up 6 times on my TV. This has never happened before in the 10 months I've had my Roku TV. I've tried everything to stop it. I unplugged all cables to TV (power & HDMIs), then held the power button down (complete power drain). I also did a factory reset, to no avail. Dear Roku techs: please read this Reddit thread link I'm including at the end of this message. Lots of people been having the same problem recently with various brands of Roku TVs. It seems obvious to me there it is a software issue with Roku. Most likely there was a recent bad software update that created this irritating issue for many people. I hope the techs at Roku will soon put out a new 'patch/fix' software update to resolve this very annoying issue that many Roku TV owners started experiencing lately.  https://www.reddit.com/r/Roku/comments/1jbs151/tcl_roku_tv_keeps_getting_this_pop_up_but_i/#lightbox

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar

I'm having the very same issue, which began only within the last week or so, affecting both a Roku Select 43" set and a TCL 55".  In  this case, we use an HDMI-over-Cat6 distribution system to feed video from a computer to multiple Roku TVs. To save electricity, the distribution box is only powered on when being actively used, but once it comes online, suddenly everyone gets bothered by the same useless pop-up box others here have mentioned, despite the input having already been set up and labeled (and re-labeling it over again never helps).

Beyond fixing this recent regression, it would be nice to also have a menu option buried in settings to disable the "auto detect new inputs" feature altogether. That way, there would be no need to clutter the tiles list with rarely-used inputs; a video-source computer or other automation could send an ECP command to switch a TV over to its feed (e.g. POST to http://my.roku.tv.ip:8060/keypress/InputHDMI4).  Maybe there wouldn't be much demand considering the specialized use case, but such an option could also be an easy mitigation for this phantom pop-up issue, until its root cause can be identified. Default the auto-prompt to on as now, but I'd imagine most here could live without it for a while.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar

This is no solution. As an update, I did a manual update that showed 2 patches installed. The update date did not change. It still shows 1/8/25, so there is a problem altogether with the ROKU update software. Please get this escalated to the right people.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar

I just saw this thread on Reddit. A response from Roku. Apparently they read Reddit but not their own forum discussions. Go figure.
