Man, I just wanted to reply to you to say, "Holy guacamole dude; I don't know how you are so patient!" I could not help but read the entire thread--it just got worse and worse. The first guy had to have the value of 2FA explained to him, but then lost his mind when it was suggested that he or others may use the same password for multiple sites, lmao. (Like, sorry for explaining; I can't guess your knowledge level!)
And then later you super politely out that some interpret caps to be shouting on the internet, and he replies some nonsense about how you're telling him how to handle his disability? Haha.
(BTW a point that I'm not sure was mentioned (not that it would matter haha) was the other half of the coin, that these features aren't just for the end users' benefit, but protection for the site itself.)
Oh yeah, and then there's the random dude who gloms on to tell us about how enforcing 2FA is somehow a means for Roku to track one's internet activity! Man oh man.
Credit to you!

You're being sarcastic, but yes, that's probably why their default requires using a phone (for most 2FAs) or email address (here with people pressing them now) exactly once before one can disable the pseudo-2FA. This way they collect the anti-privacy info they need from you and can store it for eternity to know who you really are. That's why you can turn if off after that data was collected instead what the OP correctly desires (to have it on for those who want it and off initially).
I completely understand your frustration with the two-step verification on this site! It’s so annoying having to check your email after already entering your username and password. If there’s an option to disable it, it would be great if someone could share exactly where to find it in the account settings on the site.

Yes, there is an option to disable 2FA, and it's already been explained in this thread.
