Onn Roku TV Keeps Crashing To The Selection Screen

I have a new 42" Onn Roku tv that keeps crashing out. It doesn't matter which app I'm running at any given time, (Sling, Roku, Vudu, Etc.), it will suddenly stop running / crash and put me back on the selection screen. It usually does this within 15 minutes or so after turning the tv on but may actually give me up to 30 min. of air time. At times it simply freezes and will not do anything at all unless a hard boot is performed (unplugging). All of the "power saving" options are turned off and it's not the internet as we have at least one other tv running at any given time and this one is the only one presenting any kind of problem. Any idea what's going on? Beginning to feel like a store return is in my future....

Iv been having the same issue from the same exact tv has anything helped???

I tried a sort of "solution" I read while researching this problem. It may or may not work for anyone else but so far it has for me. Turn the set off by using the power button on the TV, (on my model, it's on the bottom of the set beneath the screen in the center). Then unplug the TV and hold the power button for ten seconds or so. This apparently drains any residual energy / electricity from the set. Plug it back in and turn on using the set's power button. In my case, the set will operate fine for the rest of the day. I have to keep doing it daily though. Sort of a "poor man's" solution but i guess it's better than nothing....

I also recently bought a 42" Onn roku tv. I paid $88 during a Walmart black Friday sale. I received the tv November 10th 2020 and since then the apps have crashed multiple times and its constantly losing the network connection. I've also restarted my router, uninstalled and reinstalled all my streaming channels and reset the tv to factory settings. Today after the factory reset its already crashed while using the Hulu and Prime video apps. Its very  frustrating. Also thinking if returning but with the situation the stores are very chaotic 😔😔

Same here, also got mine for $88 at Walmart. I actually bought 2, one for my boys for Christmas but I'm honestly thinking of returning it before then. We have 3 rokus... the roku 2 ,the express and streaming stick + and I've never had this problem with either of those.

Did you ever find a solution? My tv is basically unwatchable because of it.

The only “solution” that works for me is unplugging the tv and waiting a couple minutes before plugging back in. So far it will work after doing that for at least a day or so.

Same thing happens to my roku device added to my TV. My actual Roku TV just crashes back to the app screen every time I try to watch a movie. Here for the comments.

Just a quick addition: I had a TCL Roku with a major problem freezing and my work around was to just bypass everything with a streaming stick. Garbage internals as far as streaming on these Roku TV's?

Me too.. I'm a Roku user for over 10 years now with multiple Roku device purchases but I am having the same problem with my 42" TCL Roku tv it keeps crashing on prime, Netflix and hbomax funny it doesn't Roku channel though? My solution was to get a an AMAZON FIRE STICK and bypass the Roku tv also. Working fine now.

I have a 55" TCL Roku that just started this same BS 2 days ago.

  • Having the same issue described by others on the 70” version purchased during Black Friday. Crashes at least once every day, usually more. Hoping there is a solution soon as this is a frustrating issue and like others, I regret this purchase.

  • Same. Had to factory reset. Worked for about a week now back to same problem. Walmart **bleep** tv.

You can’t use the remote at all when it happens let alone home button and back button 5 times. The tv won’t even turn off. You have to wait for it to kick back to home at least 3 minutes each time. After the 3rd time I just say forget it and go to antenna tv.  At least I have that but I could have bought a non “smart” tv for $100.

        model: onn 100012585

      Hello URMAWM2

      Thanks for reaching out!

Have you tried to remove one or two of the affected channels > restart the Roku TV > re-install the channel? If not, we suggest giving it a shot. Please also specify to us the names of the channels experiencing the issue.

You can check this Support link for detailed instructions to my suggestion above: How do I resolve channel playback issues?

With more information, we can assist you further.

      All the best,
      Kariza

  • Same! Netflix and Hulu freeze up before even starting and crash back to main menu. You literally CANNOT REACH A HUMAN BEING BY PHONE FOR TROUBLESHOOTING and that is such a crock! Customer service sure ain’t what it used to be!

  • I to am having the same issue, not only with my Onn but my TCL, both are less than a year old. I have done all of the steps (Repeatedly). I will pass along some information that two best buy employees told my husband and I, take it for what its worth and use your own judgement. We were looking in April of this year 2022 for a new TV. Quality is of importance to us as we don't want to keep having to spend $200 or $300 for a TV once or twice a year. When we were looking we went to Best Buy. There was one Roku TV left from the Christmas season. And decently priced, now I know why. The employees advised us never to buy a TV that was produced for the Christmas sales/season. They are produced in mass quantities with less quality materials, hence the affordable prices before, during and after the holiday season. They told us that they are not built to last. Whether this is true or not I don't know but they told us this knowing that they could potentially lose a sale.

      Hi BC-McBenz

      Welcome to the Roku Community!

Does the issue only occur on a specific channel or across other channels installed on your Roku device?

You stated that you had already attempted to uninstall the app. Before reinstalling the channel, did you restart your Roku TV? This is an important phase in the troubleshooting process. If you haven't attempted the suggested order (remove > restart > reinstall), we recommend giving it another try.

Furthermore, we recommend restarting your Roku using the Settings menu by navigating to Settings > System > System restart > Restart.

      Warm regards,
      Lianna

The breadcrumb on my ONN Roku TV is Settings> System> then “Advanced system settings” > then it’s “Factory reset” or “Network connection reset” . I’m not sure which one would fix this problem of booting me off the chosen apps. I haven’t tried it because the breadcrumb trail doesn’t match. I don’t want to waste time setting everything up all over again if it isn’t going to work anyway.
