I have an older Sharp Roku TV that is very slow Roku-wise (even though it is fully updated). I just ordered a 2024 model Roku Ultra which I plan to mount in one of the TV's HDMI ports.
Will I run into any glitches controlling the Ultra and the TV (on/off - volume)?
The only glitch is with controlling some TV features. If you only ever watch streaming content, you can pretty much get away with only using the Ultra's remote. You set up the remote to control the TV during setup of the Ultra (it will probably detect it automatically) and it will turn the TV on/off and control the volume. The Ultra itself never turns off and the power button is strictly for the TV. You'll need the TV's remote to control things like picture settings, audio settings, etc., and to change its input to a different device and of course if you watch antenna TV. It can sometimes be confusing as to which Home Screen you're looking at (the TV's or the Ultra's), so I always recommend using a different theme/wallpaper on each one so that it's obvious.
Thanks for the help. I should acquire the 2024 Ultra next week so I will report back with my experience once I have it connected.
