It’s not a problem with the YouTube app and it is an easy fix.
Go into your settings -> system -> power-> system restart. Restart your Roku TV, take the batteries out of the remote and put them back in. Should fix the problem, I just did this and it worked for me!

I haven’t had a chance to let this hypothesis play out to test it, but I’m willing to bet that having Fast TV Start turned on is the real issue here. It’s essentially the same thing as standby vs. restart on a computer. Meaning every time you turn the tv “off”, it’s actually going into standby, so if you only ever turn it “off” with the power button on the remote, you’re never actually restarting the system. That dawned on me when I saw the tv’s boot screen and realized I hadn’t seen that in forever.
