With the Newsmax fiasco, here are some lessons hopefully everyone will remember for the future:
1) NEVER sign up for an annual plan on ANY new service. Start out monthly. You can always convert to annual if you like it later.
2) NEVER sign up through a 3rd party like Roku. This only makes it harder to take care of problems. Go to the service's WEB SITE and sign up there. This gives the maximum number of devices you can use it on. This goes DOUBLE for something like premium subscriptions through The Roku Channel, which are only accessible through The Roku Channel.
3) REMEMBER that refunds are nearly impossible to get, and cancellation usually just means no more autopay and your subscription will continue until it expires. In the case of paying through Roku, you typically cannot remove the app from your device until the subscription expires.
4) If a service gives you less than 24 hours in a change from FREE to PAID, seriously reconsider continuing using that service. That is a sign of poor planning, major financial issues, or a possible SCAM. Unless a court orders an immediate paywall, consider it contempt-of-customer. Unless you will die of withdrawal symptoms, consider waiting and see what others say before spending any money.
