YouTube TV App removes background play?

I turned on my Roku to watch YouTube TV and it appears the newest app version (settings about in app says ver web_20200722_13_RC0) seems to have removed playing in the background completely?   It used to be that you could be watching in the Live tab, say on ESPN, and then say a commercial came on and you wanted to browse the guide you could use the back button and browse the guide and other tabs.  Meanwhile, the show on ESPN was playing in the background.  Then if you wanted you could return to the show by going to the top of the tabs and select the show title.  It would go back to full screen.   

Now as soon as you 'back' out of the show and return to the guide, the show stops.  There is no longer any background playing.  Is that intentional?  If so, a huge step backwards for the app.  Additionally, the fast forward is now very jerky... Skips.  Was smooth in previous versions.  

Not happy with these changes. Up my rates and now making horrible changes to the app. How about adding a 'maked as watched' and not mess with features that worked.
