Outside apps

Can an outside app be downloaded to a TCL S-series Roku TV? If so, how? I have searched the 900+ apps listed and the one from my soon to be steaming provider is not listed.

Roku devices cannot "sideload" applications. They do not run on the Android operating system, so those apps won't work. Some developers create what are called "private channels" for Roku devices. Roku does not support private channels and reserves the right to remove them if they are violating their developer guidelines. To install a private channel, you need the code to enter in your Roku user account web site.
