I have a roku express+ 3710X that I bought probably 3 years ago, I live in Brazil, and I know that in my country most channels are available so it is not a location problem. My roku’s feed design is very old as well as the channels I have available in the store to download. The only good channels I have are netflix, Spotify and YouTube, the rest of them available are very unknown (like for example “24 hour movie channel”, foreign channels and etc) and not good at ALL. The other good apps and streaming platforms are not available to me. Of course My device is always updated but nothing changes since I bought it. (In my device it says version 9.3.0) I already downloaded the roku app, tried to do anything I could to solve this problem, I don’t know what to do and I’m not willing to get a new one, because my device was supposed to be working pretty good. Help!!
Roku units work anywhere in the world where they can get a broadband internet connection, independent of where they are purchased. The individual channels, however can only operate where their charters and program rights and licensing issues permit them to operate.
Few channels own the programming they show. Most have to license the right to stream their content from the program owners, and those rights are usually tied to specific countries or geographic regions. Sometimes even the program owners can't distribute in a country because they've sold exclusive rights in that country to someone else.
To receive the channels on your Roku that are authorized for your current location these must all agree:
- The country of the IP used when creating your Roku account. If you've moved from the country in which you created your account, you may need to create a new one in your present location, then link your Roku to the new account.
- The country of the IP used for your current Roku session.
- The countries in which each channel app operates.
